I am rather confused ( most people who know me wouldn't be a bit suprised blink.gif biggrin.gif ) about hot flahses that is. When I get one or what I think is one (sometimes they are obvious some I'm not sure) my heart palp's will come at the exact time the heat does or maybe the heat a milli sec. later, maybe a min or 2, after this lately my skin will sometimes feel like it is icy hot for a lack of a better description. did you ever touch something that felt freezing , but it was really hot. I feel this in my arms and upper torso. Is this part of a hotflash or is there yet another thing I need to be concerned with? Thanks HUGS Mikki

sunflowermmh,

Sounds like a hot flash to me. Whenever I get one, my heart races and I feel a rush of heat through my upper body.

I always thought a hot flash would feel like you do on a hot summer day. But it's so much worse, so internal! It feels like my blood is boiling and everything is so out of control.
My skin will feel very hot like I have a fever, I will touch my forehead, it feels like I'm burning up. I used to take my temperature, positive I had a fever. I rarely sweat but can feel very weak plus my heart pounds, I can even heard it in my ears. It amazes me this is not harmful to the body. About the only thing you can do is get in front of a fan and drink cool (not cold) water.

Funny thing is I didn't have hot flashes at first or only mild ones. I thought oh this is nothing, they where low on my complain list. Then I read one day, if your not complaining about hot flashes your not having them severe!
There is still worse things I have to deal with but I can understand why people complain of Hot Flashes. OH Yes!

Oh I also have nightsweats, they are not as common as they used to be TG. I consider them even worse then day time ones.

smile.gif hi....sounds like the flash!!!!! i use to get these over and over again a day... scared me to death which then brought on the panic attacks!!! ugh!!!! my flashes were so hard to describe to the dr. who still thinks i am nuts... any way i said it feels like when you are driving in a car and you go over a little hill... that feeling in your stomach?... well i get that feeling over and over and my heart starts racing and i feel like i need to leave where ever i am... then my ears and face get hot to touch... it lasts from about 2 minutes to a half hour... i am doing better with them... and they arent as bad as they were 10 months ago... hopefully things are getting better.... denise

My explanation of a hot flash is this: Its like someone turned the furnace on inside my body and there is no switch to turn it off! I have to wait until it subsides myself. Those type of flashes occur during the day, at night its different. Then I wake up feeling warm/hot and have a pool of water on my chest! I hate to ruin anyone's day but this has been going on for over a year now.

I guess I will just include it in the discomfort of a hot flash. I know what it is like to wake and find sweat literally pooled in your chest area...night sweats come and go for me without predictablity. I have gone probably 2 mo. without a night sweat and last night I have one? My hot flashes are just the same very unpredictable throughout the day and mo. Thanks all Mikki

You sound as if you're having hot flashes.

There's a lot of variation in the experience from woman to woman. For me, they last all day, and usually for 3 to 5 days non-stop. They're v draining.

And it feels odd. The heat isn't in my blood, its in the flesh and muscle. I feel as if the underside of my eyelids are perspiring.

Tepid showers work the best, but that's not always practical. I can't blink.gif see me blink.gif wrestling the kid hosing down the veggies at the supermarket for his hosepipe.

I don't think that it could'nt get any worse! But, in this month of Oct. I still sleep with the fan ( a big one!) on. I know that my poor hubby is wishing that this will soon be over! But, he really sweet about the whole thing. smile.gif

Oh LORD!!! a WHOLE year you say? Well I guess the good news is that I will save a whole lotta money on my heating bill this winter. laugh.gif I just started getting hot flashes, and I honestly had no idea what the heck was going on....even though I knew I was approaching menopause. I guess it is like childbirth, until you actually experience it, you have NO idea what all the fuss is about.
This has been great reading all the blogs. It sure sets my mind at ease. Gotta run...having a hot flash..gonna go run in the snow. Cheers!

Anyone ever have extremely cyclical flashes? Like ones you can set your watch to on a daily basis?

I'm presuming they were flashes of some sort. I started taking my temperature and it was elevated during the day, and would break 'night sweats' maybe about 12 hours later.

I went to every type of doctor under the sun a couple years back AND had every blood test known to mankind. No results other than "here's some Serafem". Totally maddening, and nothing since but the light, heavy, off & on type periods. I'm now 47. Any clues or am I just totally weird?

Last year I had flashes every 45 to 48 minutes, lasted seven minutes, then came back two hours later. (I timed them!) Went on for about 6 months.
Then they went away.
Now, six months later, they are back, but just more creeping in than BOOM Hot BOOM not hot.
Now that the weather is cooler, I have just cut down on the length of my cigarette breaks. Flash time, go outside for air. By the time I have a coupla drags I'm ready to go back inside and warm up by the pizza oven.

As a cook, it has always been a problem for me to figure out if it is actually a flash or just the working conditions. So I don't know if I am flashing while working, but I certainly know when I am when I am not!
Now, it just creeps up on me, haven't determined a time line, but suddenly I notice I am hot. I'm getting better at getting the fan going before its over, but when it is over, if I don't cover up quickly, I'm shivering.

So, YES there is (or can be) a pattern, but it can change up at any time.
Fans work, and I have found relief with taking fish oil suppliments.

Best thing is knowing you are NOT alone. Hugs, babe. Keep up the fight!!

when I first started to flash they were pretty mild... for me anyway. they were always at the same time too...they started around 4 pm. and went through the evening. They first felt like my face just would feel wind burned or I got a bit of sun. nowhere else just my face and ears. I didn't have all the other symptoms that go with them now either. now it is jusy intense heat waist up. like it is on fire under my skin. Anytime anywhere. MIkki

Hi All-

I get the heart palps racing heart out of the blue and a weak kneed feeling that just rushes over me. It subsides in several minutes and then I feel fine. I don't really get the boiling hot feeling you have decribed. I may just feel a bit warmer then before it started.

Could this be a hot flash?

I do get the night sweats with the pooling sweat on the chest.

I have had hot flashes during the day, not too many but they were always in my neck and up area. I also have had night sweats where I wake up soaking wet in my neck and chest. Now I am having what I think are hot flashes while I am sleeping. I wake up and feel hot all over from head to toe and throw my covers off. I don't sweat though. Have not had a period since 1st of August. Anyone else get the hot flashes at night with no sweating?

Susie

I do, more often then not. I'm so hot I can't sleep or am awakened by it. Sometimes I perspire but as I say more often then not, I don't.
Susie Q
Duch,

Thanks for your reply. At least I know I am not alone with these things. Had a bad night again last night. Like you said, it wakes me up when I get so hot.

I think everyone with hot flashes will appreciate this.

I walked in our school office, and one of the grandmother's was picking up her grandchild. I have known her for years. She said, "Oh my, I'm having a hot flash, and I just steamed up my glasses." I said, " I know what you mean," and we laughed.

Sandy,

I have hot flashes like that, just a funny feeling in my stomach like butterflies and the racing heart, then just warm all over.

I haven't had any night sweats yet, knock on wood. unsure.gif
