I am still deciding if I should try BHRT or just ride out this hell. My doctor knows nothing about BHRT so I have had to do a lot of research myself. He won't Rx HRT anymore either, but I don't think I would want that anyway. I was 'diagnosed' as menopausal 15 months ago with an FSH of 24. I was just shy of 44 at the time. I haven't had a period in 21 months (I think-stopped keeping track). My doctor said if I start having signs of vaginal atrophy he can Rx Premarin vaginal cream. From what I have read you are not supposed to use estrogen without progesterone if you have a uterus. Is he mistaken in recommending this?

I am also interested in knowing why I am still having meno symptoms when I haven't had a period in so long. I thought after 1 year with no peiod the symptoms stopped. I have the usual-hot flashes, insomnia, bad temper, depressed, feel ugly, old and worthless, gained weight, skin sagging. I am SO bitter that I started meno at such a young age. I used to be attractive and thin. Now I am so old looking and unattractive I hate myself. I very rarely socialize anymore because I am so humiliated to have aged so much. I hate going out in public and I especially hate seeing people I haven't seen in a long while because I know I look so much older that I used to. Sorry, I'm rambing off topic here. Back to question at hand: Is it safe to use premarin vaginal cream without progesterone?

I had been using Vagifem, which is also an estrogen medicationo inserted vaginally. I was told by one gyno that you should use progesterone after three months of use of the Vagifem, and if you didn't bleed then, that you don't need it anymore.
