I used to have a brain like a steel trap (worked in IT), and now I forget EVERYTHING!! I misspell words, I can't remember words when I talk to people, and I have to write everything down so I don't forget it. Last night, my husband and I had the following, actual, conversation:

Me: I think I forgot to remind you, but did you remember to pick up the thing for the thing?

Husband: Huh??...

I am only 44, how much worse is this going to get? And, more important, when does it go away?

Hi Tompet,
I hear you, isn't it awful how you can't remember things. My mouth and brain don't work together anymore mad.gif . I find myself at work saying...I wasn't always this stupid, really. I sometimes feel like a idiot.
Tompet
Hi Cathym, yes, it is!! How old are you, and how long have you put up with this? Mine started when I was about 39, but has gotten worse.

rolleyes.gif I am with you there I think my memory started to leave around 45 I am now 50. It seems better at times. Stress or lack of sleep make it worse for me.

I tried to go for an interview a few months ago with the stress I cam off like an idiot.....oh well blink.gif

It could be worse.

Tompet,

Me too! I am only 42 and have been like this the last 5 years.

I have forgotten to collect the kids from school. I've left my car there twice & merrily walked home. Every day I forget words but some days much worse than others. I used to be a superspeller too, but not these days!

Today I drove to the postbox, then realised I'd forgotten to stick a stamp on my letter & had to go back for one. Yesterday I left an answerphone message for my son's guitar teacher. I realised I had forgotten to leave my number so I called back & left a second message. (I am not unfamiliar with leaving answerphone messages either!) It went:

"Oh Hi, it's me again, Thomas's mother, erm... I ...erm ...oh what was it.. sorry I've forgotten why I called back... erm... there was something else I meant to say... ermmm... pause... ermm Oh sorry I'll have to call back again... oh no, its Ok, I've remembered now, it was to leave my telephone number as I forgot to on the first message". What must the poor guy have thought!!! Totally embarrassing!!

I also write things down on my calendar or on lists & then forget to look on them!

Barb, I would HATE to have to go on an interview, they would likely think I am mentally challenged. rolleyes.gif
Squiggle, that guitar teacher message cracked me up, that is exactly how I would sound. I actually forgot a pot on the stove last night (decided to do something else while heating up dinner, BAD IDEA) and smoked out the house and ruined the pot. Thank God no fire started. I wonder how much worse this will get??

Mentally challenged? - I definitely am these days!!! Tompet, I managed to burn 2 lots of toast under the grill yesterday & I stood right next to it the whole time, both times...

It has to get better...

I was at a meeting this morning with my disabled son's job coaches, all who are roughly half my age. They were discussing introducing their significant others to family members and how uncomfortable it was, and I contributed this intellectual dialogue:

'...You kids should see that movie...uhhh...just a minute...oh my gosh... I can't believe I can't remember the name of that movie...we just watched it last weekend...it stars...uhhh...OK...ummm...OK, she's married to Mathew Broderick...you know...she used to be in...'something? & The City'...Parker, Parker..."

"Sarah Jessica Parker?"
"Yeah."
"The Family Stone?"
"Yeah. You kids should watch 'The Family Stone'.

I hope I was thinking about the right movie?!?
