Full Version: Have hormones helped you stop the rapid aging?

For those on replacement hormones, were you able to halt the changes? Maybe even reverse some undesireable body weight redistribution? Thicken the skin up a bit?

If so, what are you taking exactly and how long did it take to see the physical improvements?

I've been on BHRT for 7 years. I have no basis for comparison in terms of aging signs. I can tell you that my weight remains too generously distributed around my middle. : ) I somehow doubt that hormone therapy could convince a female body to NOT store fat. rolleyes.gif

I take HRT and i keep feeling like i am getting old and i don't think the HRT is that good in respect to my skin. Marks and things appear and i don't like it one bit. It is not doing anything for my confidence either. I am on 2mg of Climagest tablets and have just started to feel moody as well. I first started HRT because i was getting no sleep i had anxiaty feeling and crying all the time feeling despair and i have been taking the tablets nearly 2 years, sometimes 1mg then 1 and a half mg's and then 2mg, but now i am still on 2mg but over the last month have been feeling and acting real moody and out of control and i don't know if that is just the menopause or a conbination of having to deal with a son that has had mental health problems for 12 years and maybe i just cannot cope anymore. My skin has felt awful and i feel like i am ageing daily so i do know what you are feeling like i think we all do. Love sogovia.

I don't think synthetic HRT does the same thing as bioidenticals. I wouldn't expect progestins and fake estrogen to act like the real thing. I was a wreck on birth control pills but real USP progesterone feels nice.

I was looking at some old threads today in the "Looking Good" section. Thought I would bump this up. I would be interested to hear of people's experiences. Particularly those who may have started hormones in the tail end of peri or early post.

I am on bios. I take Estrogen, Progest. & Testosterone. I noticed changes with-in a month. My skin looks nicer, and I lost weight. The fat turned into muscle. The test. did this, I'm sure.
I am stronger and have great energy all day long. I smile a lot now.

Before bios, I was a mess!

Maybe I should try your "recipe!" I'm only on progestrone cream. I just can't believe how much I feel like I've aged in the last five years. It s***s!! cool.gif

LOL! I am in peri, not meno, yet... and I take it all. I am doing continuous BHRT. The constant hormones keeps me stable. I am just too busy to go back to the non-functional, pathetic mess that I was last year!

I read somewhere that an "estrogen" face was more attractive than someone who is deficient in E. My mother told me that when she stopped taking E, her skin & etc. declined.

If I was not convinced that bios were safe, believe me, I would not take them. After seeing the results, I am a big fan of them. I think that Suzanne Sommers goes too far, but then again, she looks great! All of the movies stars aseem to be on them, and most of the women that we have come to know through tv & etc. are on them, too. (just look at Victoria Principal and google search)They must know someting that we don't.

I don't mind getting older, but I just don't want to look 100 years old, just yet!

Dear Shebee
Yes I do believe the Estrogen really helps to keep a smoother skin
I am interested in the Bios. but we have no access to them here so have to make do with HRT.
To be fair I think there is also a genetic component involved in the aging process. Some ladies, not on any Hormonal supplements continue to age gracefully whilst others do not seem to do so well.Stress, climate and poverty also play a part.
If you were to see a 40 year old Arab woman here in Jordan from low socio-economic class, and I say this with respect you would notice how much more aged they are than their European counterparts.
Personally I prefer Victoria Principal's looks over Sommers, but she was married to a Plastic Surgeon so that plus Hormones gives her that ageless glow.
Getting older is fine but agree that no harm in doing what we can to avoid the "Prune" Look!

All the Best
Elizabeth
