I have always had a 'bad gut', but once peri started, it got 100% worse. I never know when I'm going into one of my bad tummy phases, but this week was a doozy. I woke up every day with feeling sick to my stomach, bloated, woozy. Coincidentally, I had the internal shakes every night, too. Seems like the two go together. Sometimes when I wake up with the shakes, my stomach is in an uproar too. I used to think: oh, it's just a bug, but how in the world can I get sooo many stomach bugs. Now I'm convinced it's just another lovely manifestation of this magical time in our lives (LOL.)

Thanks RoundRobin..so at least I know I am not alone on this one..some days are good and some days I just feel like crap!!! And now that you mention it I did have some internal shaking going on last night also..don't notice it much in the day time, but at night I swear the bed is moving..
Thanks again

I also have had stomach problems. It either hurts or I am nauseous. I have made myself something to eat many times only to take a few bites and feel as if I'll be sick if I eat. I always had an iron stomach so this is new for me. I have internal shakes occasionally so I'll have to watch and see if the two are connected. Is there really any part of our bodies not affected?

Hi, Arla - Sorry to hear about your tummy problems - can empathise with you. But if you havent' found the topic titled 'New to Site and need help....Please' - Have a look now. I have been helped a great deal by the girls info on this, recently.
Unfortunately, it would seem so many of us are suffering from stomach problems. It really helps to know that you are not alone with these problems.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

Hello Friends!
One of my worst symptoms have been intestinal problems. Stomach discomfort and the worst most embarassing is passing gas alot. Infact the first night I knew something was wrong I was awake all night passing gas non-stop. Do any of you have this too?

Stomach problems..........boy o boy have I had this. About 8 months ago I had a period after 11 months. I then had another one after two months. Since the period I have been having intense menopause symptoms as well as severe acid reflex. Many test and medications later, nothing was foound. My acid reflux is finally getting a little better. But now, I am getting intestional problems, stomach aches and feeling sick to my stomach along with the menopause symptoms and today dizziness. My IBS has come back. I do believe that they are all related.
Now how do you deal with it. I use to take caltrate with D to help my IBS. It worked wonderful. But it makes my acid reflux worse. Use to take metamusil.....but bothers my reflux. I use to take idmodium but now gives me a stomach ache and sick to my stomach and yes gas.
I guess everyday is a new thing. One symptom replaces another. I just want the symptoms to go away and none take its place.
Hang in there ladies. At least we have each other, a whole bunch of support and understanding.

you might want to consider if you have any food intolerances - caffeine, wheat, dairy, eggs are common ones. My friend bloats after drinking orange juice! You could try leaving them out one at a time!

Ok Tlily - try this - it won't hurt for a week & it may allow your system to calm down a bit!
Think of how a baby is weaned. Baby rice first and then carrots. Do the same. Just have rice & carrots for a couple of days and then introduce some bolied chicken/ unsmoked fish/ microwaved scrambled eggs (no fat) and then other easy to digest veg - maybe butternut squash. Keep on this very basic diet for a few days & see if there is an improvement. Cut out all non-essential vits etc as I found for example vit c tablets gave me dreadful acid. You can try & introduce milk after a few days but in some people that also is a culprit. Even camomile tea can cause acid for me sometimes, so stick to just water for a few days. Then when you're ready try out different foods. Oats were good for me, but not potato which gave me dreadful acid.
Do this for a few days and see if it helps to give your body a rest. Hopefully the intestines at least will clear up. They carry out a similar procedure for food intolerance testing but you would need to do this under supervised care as it is for a lot longer.

I have done that a while ago and felt a little better but then when I added I felt bad again. I did it again and stayed on that longer and slowly added again and began to feel a little better but got some acid again. It did not get too bad. Thought all was clearing up until the meno symptoms arrived and then all hell broke loose. The sweats, burning, intestional problems, severe anxiety, many aches and pains. My body feels like it is going to explode because I am so shakey. The burning continues with all the rest. Doctor says it is stress. I am so tierd of that word. He can't find anything else.
Scrapper I have been drinking only water and lots of it. I just want to climb in bed and not face anything.
Then I have this trip comming up and I don't know what to do/ Doctor says go and I will feel better. It is a cruise. I am afraid of the bus ride to NY wihich is 5 hours that my intestines will act up. I am afraid of being in the middle of the ocean and be sick. I can't eat much of anything.
I am rally afraid of how I feel and what is going on with my body. Do I have sometihng worse that they are not seeing. Hwd loads of test and nothing. That is good but now what.
I hate feeling like this. My job involves helping many people and I keep positive all day with a smile and I am having a hard time maintaining this. Been 8 months now of missery.

Tlily - maybe one of the foods you added is making this worse? Hav eyou tried leabving out wheat or dairy for a while?
Regarding the 5 hour journey - are you worried about needing the bathroom? There are 2 solutions to that
1. Don't eat anything for 24 hours beforehand.
2. There are meds you can take that can "bung" you up a bit
Have a word with the cruise company before you go about what is on the menu. They should be able to boil you up some plain rice if necessary. Remember me telling you before how I feared my 12 hour flight to Disney, then what foods would be available. I found the complete hotel menu on the internet for each of its three restaurants - even down to the fact I could get oatmeal for breakfast (remember I was only tolerating about 10 foods at the time). I even researched the whereabouts of a grocery store where i could buy bananas (I knew i could have lived off them alone if necessary) I felt greatly reassured knowing what foods were available.
I even took my own sandwiches for the aeroplane (couldn't do that now though - would have to starve for 12 hours I suppose!)

Shelly I agree it is not fair.
Squiggle I will have to try those things. Needing a bathroom comes on so quick sometimes. It is the IBS stuff to. I will have to try really hard to get through this. I have taken those pills to get binded up a little but then I need metimusil to help with that and it gives me the reflux. I already have it so do not want to make it worse. So I guess i will have to not eat or something. Carbs in moderation helps the reflux but not the IBS. Throw in the menopause thing and I am a mess. I will try what you said and continue to think positive.

SCRAPPER Hello, I have something to share with you that may help you, last year I started getting a ton of symptoms and one of the first ones was a gut ache, I even called 911 one time it hurt so much. Just writing it off as gas or something I let it go. then in the following months I started getting terrible nausea every morning and women on power surge were saying this nausea could be hormones. BUT I will tell you this, my daughter who is way younger started getting some of the same symptoms and we found out we had a candida overgrowth in our guts. It causes major gastro problems. I feel So much better. It actually causes anxiety, hormone imbalance, depression, BRAIN FOG, chronic fatigue, IBS, painful thinking and NAUSEA esp upon waking. Go to candiapage.com you must avoid all wheat products and stay away from sugar. I'm telling you I changed my diet and feel like a different person. I know I am perimeno. but my symptoms were made way worse by candida. I want women to know that some of these "peri" symptoms are actually candida symptoms because the constant release of adrenaline when a woman gets a hotflash helps the candida to grow more too. Stay away from coffee or anything acid as this helps it grow too. If anyone wants to e-mail me directly my address is cms61@verizon.net , I study alternative meds. and am a massage therapist. Please go to that website. thanks.

I know this was back in August that you wrote this, but I posted something to scrapper you might find of interest. I too last year suffered from the same exact symptoms, I know I was perimenopausal, BUT I found out I had a candida overgrowth in my gut and it is a MAJOR cause of aniety, irritable bowel and stomach problems. DON't take benzadiazapine drugs they can actually cause you to get a candida overgrowth which makes your anxiety worse! And it causes leaky gut sydrome which can cause Crohns disease. I had been running to the bathroom for 4 or 5 months, so I will listen to you. I understand. Plus when our hormones change our bodies release adrenaline which makes us think we are panicking. You must have the relaxation response. When it comes on- you must "let it go" and say to yourself "this is going to pass' and it will. You will adjust. Please go to candidapage.com and stay away from wheat and sugar and take probiotics. Please feel free to email me. cms61@verizon.net chin up sweetie it will be better.

Try & put yourself in a numb sort of mode for the journey to the ship where you say I don't care anymore - whatever will be, will be. Can you take a valerian to make you sleep a bit on the way?
Look forward to hearing from you when you get back! Remember -you need this break!

Tlily, don't eat anything with insoluble fiber such as pineapple, nuts, celery -- anything with strings, hulls, hard coatings or skins on the outside. These foods only add to the problems. Look up IBS on the interenet and it will tell you what foods you should and shouldn't eat. Try to have a good time!

I have been suffering with a sour stomach and queasiness since last Sunday. I thought it was something I ate over the weekend, but it is now Thursday and I feel the same. I have tried over the counter antacids with no luck. After reading your message, I contacted my gynecologist to discuss if these problems are related to menopause. She wasn't in but the nurse treated me like an idiot and told me to call my primary care doctor. So, are stomach issues not recognized as being associated with menopause? My husband is insisting that I see a gastroenterologist immediately, since I have not really eaten or done much else all week. I have gone to work and live on mints to help with the sour taste in my mouth all day. Any ideas from anyone? Should I see the gastro guy? I have a female gynecologist and was so disappointed in the response from the nurse.

I need some help and support. If there is another forum for me to post and/or read, please let me know as I am hpoing that I can get some information/support somewhere on this great site that I've not been on for a while. As many others, this journey for me continues to have its ups and downs. The last month has just been so difficult. I am experiencing very strange and dramatic stomach issues - I guess they're stomach issues - I don't even know anymore! I feel a discomfort (NOT sharp pain) in my left stomach/side area - under my left rib area. About a year ago, I had this similar type thing (but not as dramatic in intensitiy or duration) and they did a gallbladder test - fine. I also had a cat scan - normal. I am continuing to feel a lot of nausea (an ongoing symptom). And my entire lower stomach/pelvic area feels "full" but not bloated (how crazy is that?). It's almost crampy like at times. I did not have a period in May, but did in March and April and before that went 4 months without a period. I'm 51.
The feeling is more of a pressure/discomfortable feeling - not any sharp pains. I also have the "buzzing" type sensations in my legs and labia (!) at times. My back is also very sore/tender. I do not have a UTI - although I did a month ago and got antibiotics for that. I can wake up and all of these symptoms can be gone or much less (or much more) - and that might last for the day - but then, it's back for days on end. I can't pair it to anything I've eaten, etc. It is very uncomfortable sitting at times - it feels like my ribs (more so on the left side) are sitting over/on something .... there is an awareness/feeling of "something" there. I am not tender to the touch in that area - but I just feel like ICK. I try hard to rest and it's hard as when I roll over or move at times, it makes me so sick/nauseous and it's also not comfortable. Rest is not easy and it seems to make no change. I try hard to ignore it and just "go on" - no change. At times my stomach feels just "raw" as well - but not consistently. I take a probiotic, digestive enzyme, multi vitamin and drink aloe vera juice off and on. I am on bioidentical progesterone cream. I feel awful. I try and convince myself this is hormonal - somehow impacting my gut/muscles, etc. Other times, I get scared - this just keeps hanging on and I don't know what to do. I'm tired of doctors and I truly have had so many tests in the past 3 years - thankfully, all fine. Anyone - help? Thanks so much. Kathleent

Hi Kathleen,
Sorry to hear that you are having the same problems with your stomach. My stomach problems started a year ago and I am still in pain. I was dx with acid reflux and GERD. My stomach is producing too much acid. I have pain under my right rib cage. The last time I went to the doctor he said that I have inflammation in my rib cage too. I take zantac for the stomach acid, malaax at night to help keep the acid from coming up in my throat while I sleep and I am now taking Motrin for the inflammation pain. You can do a search of this message board and find all kinds of posts regarding rib pain, gall bladder, and pain under ribs. I do google searches to look up things. Since your pain is on your left side you should do a search for upper left quadrant pain and pain under left ribs or ribcage. Hope you get to feeling better soon. I want to add that I think my discomfort is from sitting at this computer for hours and not stretching. I have a posture problem and I tend to sit crooked. When I stretch and exercise more often I do not experience as much pain. It is still there but not as bad. I have also been experiencing constipation several times a month and need to take a laxative to get moving. Hope you start to feel better soon.

Hi Mary,
Thanks for your post. I'm sorry you're experiencing "stuff" too. Interesting about sitting at the computer- I do a lot of that too at work - so I'll have to remember to get up and stretch more and see if that makes a difference. I just feel so weary of this all and so weary, literally. I don't think I have acid reflux - I've not experienced the symptoms I've read about that relate to that. I think part of my frustration (and fear at times) is that there doesn't seem to be a name for what I feel. Other than me telling myself it's peri related. I don't know why I'd feel better if it had a label - but I almost feel like that would give me some emotional relief - to name it if you will. I end up feeling like I"m crazy and that's been reinforced by dr's saying there's nothing wrong and/or all the tests have come out fine - which again, I'm ever so grateful for and yet when I'm feeling as awful as I have been and still am - I know something is amiss.
Again, thanks for posting. I hope you get some relief as well. Take care, kathleent

Ooooooh me too! I have pepto bismol in my purse - the tablet form, and it does help. I had a coffee about two hours ago and my tummy reacted to it alright. I try and abstain but sometimes I break down, like today.
I also take from time to time for my sour/upset stomach: acidophilus and apple cider vinegar.

Hi Suzanne
I too have taken Apple cider vinegar and it does help. My symptons vary so much from time to time, last diagnose I had was IBS. It is so worrying nowadays its a matter of taking each day as it comes.......
Never mind its Friday and I have the weekend to look forward to, long walks with dogs and chill out time. You have a great sympton free weekend.

Connie
Hi there - me too. It does vary from time to time. Sometimes something will work and sometimes it won't!! Interesting. Good to know I am not the only one with that!
You too have a great symptom free week-end in lovely Gilbrator no less!!!
Blessings,
Suzanne
