Fifi
Hi,
I'm from Ireland and this is my first time on this site.
I'm 40, have always been healthy, have 2 young kids and low stress levels. About 8 months ago I woke up with a jerk in the middle of the night, and over the months these jerks happened everywhere, including a disturbing feeling of my jaw being locked and jerked to one side. Other nights I have internal shaking all over and feel like i'm falling off a cliff just as i drift into sleep.
The docs say its normal - weird, but normal and dismissed my suggestion that i might be perimenopaual. My mom hit menopause at 50, but her sister was 42........for the past 2 years my periods have been weird, with some months having 'gushes' -that catch me unawares, and cycle lengths varying from 31 down to 23 days. though recently they've been fairly regular again and normal.
i do think the twitching and trembling seems worse around day 14 of the cycle and during my period. does this sound like peri to any of you gals ? I've been quite distressed and depressed about this weird stuff going on. FIFI IRELAND

HI Fifi and welcome

I am in Uk - in middle England - so not so faraway - hope you are getting some of this Indian summer over there!

I am a twitcher and jerker - since I was 43 (I am now 45 - and two year sis quite enough for me) - and YES - mine is rotten from day 14 or day 15 through period - at the mo my periods are on a 15 day cycle - bless them - so I am feeling the internal engine most of the time - it is very wearing - it wrecks my sleep and my digestion goes round the twist too....aaaah the joys of fluctuating hormones

I can honestly say that however many times I tell myself it is peri - it still feels flipping awful - and my body feels anxious - even when I am not in my head - if that makes sense - my body is just on edge and there seems little i can do about it except carry on regardless - eat well, exercise, relax and keep trugging

My GP cant get his head round peri either - so your GP sounds 'Normal'!!!! He gets very flustered when I tell him about my weird body sensations - and has classed me as anxious and dperessed - he is virtualy out of his seat now every time I go to see him - ready to show me the dorr!! Poor man!!!!

Irregular periods and jerks - if GP has checked you out - Occam's razor would indicate that hormones are likley culprit - but dont go with your GP or this not being peri!

Thank you Mele, i love your description of the 'internal engine' - thats exactly how sensitised i feel to my over-active internal power surges. I think you're getting a better indian summer than here - its warm but wet, but i'm going to put on my raincoat and park my fears and face the day. thank you. smile.gif

Hi Fifi

Well - we have had a lovely day here in middle England - the August we missed has come at last!!! I just watched the news and it looked as if it was raining in Birmingham - perhaps it is on the way here - hope not cos we are moth trapping tonight......

My internal engine has been running well today - pummelling me from the inside out - trying to kid me on I am anxious - but I am not falling for that old cherry after 18 months of this nonsense! I am like a wobbly jelly inside

I agree - you got to get out and do it - cos staying in dont help - it just means you feel worse in your head

Dont let your body kid you into thinking you are anxious or behaving like you are anxious - be kind to yourself - give your self time and space - peri is a good time to look at all areas of our lives - for me it has been work, diet, exercsie, wardrobe, friends...you name it I have ferretted about in it and cleared out the garbage....

Have a good evening

Hi Fifi, this does not sound strange at all. I also have feelings of falling off a cliff just as I begin to fall asleep. That's exactly how I described it to my doctor over a year ago! It's a horrible feeling. I'm 49 and my cycles are all over the charts, 24 days, 36, 63. It's so annoying. The night disturbances, the tightnessin my jaw & chest, arms & legs. The tremors are horrible. Though I was diagnosed with Lyme last year, I've been treated and felt great all summer, now I'm back to where I started. This time I'm not sure if it has anything to do with Lyme. I truely believe it's all perimenopausal symptoms which are almost identical to Lyme.
That feeling I'm falling off a cliff just as I'm dozing off is frightening. I also wake up in a panic almost every night, some nights are worse than others. I usually feel better during the course of the day only for it to return at night again. The week before my period is horrible. Well, it can't last forever!! Take care!
