Full Version: SILK brand Soymilk- Non GMO or not and is it a problem?

Hi everyone!

I had switched to using SILK brand Soymilk like 2 years ago. I go with the unsweetened one.

However, at age 49, I believe I'm also in the thrawls of peri-menopause and been dealing with itchy skin/formication issues, chills, hot flashes and off and on missed periods.

I was thinking I read something about NON GMO soymilk as being better for you but not sure why?

Wondering if this might help my "hormonal issues" as well. And if I am drinking the wrong type of soymilk, perhaps this is why its having just the opposite affect. Of course you can tell I am grasping for ANY straws at this point!

Sure would love to have some insight!

I should add on top of all of that I have recurring rashes that drive me crazy under my bra line.....s again wondering if the wrong soy is aggravating this or not.

Wouldn't it be nice if it ONLY was this easy to figure out... unsure.gif

I also had concerns if perhaps this SILK Soymilk is pasteurized, much like milk would be, so it loses any helpful benefits. I am only using it in my morning cereal.

I've often read where soy can make some peri-menopausal symptoms worse and some people say it has made it better. I guess I am just wondering being farther into the peri thing it at this point, perhaps now it's instead upsetting the balance of things.

I just wish I felt like I use to. I've lost 50lbs in a year and a half with exercise and changing my diet to a more healthier basis and my doctor told me that every bit of weight one loses does affect hormone levels, well especially at my age being 49.

Im considering the use of some hormone creams, natural ones, but still worried if this is safe or not, but don't want to screw things up.

Go to the Silk Soymilk web site and read up on their products. They do NOT use any GMO in their soymilk.

I use their soymilk every day on my cereal. I like the unsweetened kind best.

Any soymilk is possibly good for peri symptoms because of the phytoestrogens it contains. Those are plant-based estrogen-like compounds that can help smooth over our estrogen ups and downs.

This is what I understand about GMO, but I'm no expert. GMO means Genetically Modified Organisms. Farmers sometimes plant GMO soybeans or corn because it allows them to spray roundup over the whole crop without damaging the crop. And because the GMO soybeans or corn are more resistant to insects, so they don't have to use as much pesticide. Some people think that GMO products are unsafe, because they are genetically modified, and we don't really know how eating these products affects the human body.

So you are fine drinking the Silk soymilk because it is non-GMO soymilk.

So what other choices would I have for phytoestrogens if the soybased ones are not good for you?

These articles were a real eye-opener...and now I don't know what to think...

Under this url make sure you select the article once there that says MAGIC BEAN.. just scroll down on that page.
