Hello all, I am new here. Found the site by accident, and glad I did. Let me explain. I was having a few periods that were 33 days apart and then a couple that were the usual 26 days. In June mine came 18 days apart. That put up a red flag made gyno appointment. He give me the usual pap test and checked everything. I told him about the period length for the past 6 months. and that I had started in May having hot flashes. He said that a blood test was in order. And sent me on my way. 5 days later the nurse calls me with results. Tells me and I quote."you are in menopause" I was stunned told her that was not possible. She said you aren't having a period ,right? I said a haven't missed one yet. She had nothing else to say and the doctor has never called to explain results. So since June my next period came in 48 days. Now I am looking for all the help I can and think I found it at this site. Thanks for letting me get that off my mind. Anyone have an expierence like that?

My cycles have also been irregular~they keep getting longer...the last one was 38 days! My ob/gyn put me back on birth control this month to help level out my whacky hormones. I also take several supplements that have seemed to help.

Hi feelin4everyoung -- I like your screen name, reminds me of Rod Stewart singing,
Forever Young.

Sounds like quite a miscommunication in your doctor's office! That would be very upsetting. You probably don't have to worry about erratic periods, since it's part of this whole process of perimenopause. I'm 51 now, and in a phase where I'm skipping many, but in the past 4-5 years, I was like you, getting one in 18 days, then maybe going 40 days, etc. Just all over the place. Like Denise said, keep reading here, and I'm sure your mind will be at ease, when you realize you're not alone.

Sorry girls forgot my age. I am 47, I know my body pretty well and have been in this I'd say 2 years. I had the heart palpitations about 2 years ago and that shook me up alittle was checked out and was told i had high cholesterol. That doctor told me to watch my diet and come back in 6 months for a check up. went back had come down some. Told to keep watching diet. So when my period was short I decided it was time to make sure. I am a bit upset with how I was told and that he never ask to see me to give me options. I will be self doctoring untill I feel I need to be seen again. Right now having hot flashes, fuzzy thinking, sore joints, 5 pound weight gain, and short and long periods. Thanks for listening

Hi "Young one " ;0)
Sounds right to me!
Perimen. came up on me real fast as well. There had been *symptoms* the last few years but the real entrance to peri came about 6 months ago (i'll be 44 in Oct).
Periods all over the place. Spotting usually 5 days before it really would start, then 2 months ago it wouldn't end. Heart palps, aches and pains, headaches...night sweats and tears, lots of tears. It really was like I woke up one day and it had arrived.
I just don't know what the future will hold. My Dr. put me on birth control for 2 months to settle down the bleeding. I must admit I feel 100% better when I take them. Almost worried about coming off them.
I think when they told you you were in Menopause, they just forgot the peri part.
Afterall, statisticly you are right on target!!!!
Hope you are feeling o.k. today!

I realize I was in peri when my period became closer together and lasting longer. And I never missed a period for years! But you will!!!!! I have missed 3 so far this year, at first it was such a big event I celebrated. it kind of weird when you do start missing, you no longer have any clue when you will get a period. Just feels strange!
