Hi All, I'm new to the boards, and I take Zoloft, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if Black Cohosh will ok to take with Zoloft ?

Thank Goodness I came across this board, the Dr thought I was in peri-menopause, but darn ,all I have to do is read all of your symptoms, and its like reading my own, sudden onset panic attacks, night sweats, insomnia, agoraphobia, I thought I was losing my mind ! God Bless You All !!!!!!!!! I'm sane !!! hahahahahahaha (j/k)

Welcome aboard. I don't know the answer to your question but I'm sure someone will come along who does. You're correct in checking it out though. If you suffer from manic depression ( bi-polar disorder) I know that it is important to NOT TAKE St. John's Wort.  Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Hi Bourbon... Welcome from me also.  :)   You should check with your Dr. in regard to anything you take with prescription meds, including the herbal remedies...  they are not harmless because they are OTC, and we all need to know what interactions could occur with anything.

I use to take Remifemin Black Cohosh 20 mg. twice a day, along with 25 mg. zoloft. I did this for 8 months and felt very good up until I had some weird thing happen that caused me to go off the black cohosh. I believe it was slowing my heart rate and making my blood pressure too low. The manufacturer says not to take it past the 6 month mark so I would have been okay if I had followed the instructions. I do believe many women take it for much longer but there are no clinical trials past the 6 month mark, hence the warning.

Your best bet is call your MD or Pharmacist Black Cohosh is Estrogen and can interfer with the distrubution of your med you could get an increase in the dose of Zoloft your actually taking due to the Estrogen, I <m on Elavil and checked with my Pharmacist about starting Remifemin which has Black Cohosh(Estrogen ) and he said it was fine but I,m not sure how it effects the SSRI,s. For a while I was on Zoloft 12.5mg with the Vivelle Dot (HRT) and there was no problem. Good Luck
