A new one I am sure. Does any one get nausea around the same time the monthly came? This is a new one for me. Any suggestions? -------------------- Mary R.

Nausea has been an off and on problem for me since becoming peri. I try and eat saltine crackers when it hits, and I take the quick dissolve maalox as well when I need to. It helps! Nausea is a VERY common complaint in menopause. And NOT a very pleasant thing at all!

OMG! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had it 3 times in one month and each time it was because I had just started my period or was about to. It would last for hours and there was NOTHING that I could take to relieve it! I couldn't take it anymore so I went to my doc and she has put me on the pill. She said it would regulate my period and help with the nausea. I start it on Sunday.
With all the symptoms I have had with peri, nausea is far most THE worst one I have! -------------------- [size=4]

Yes...I had been having nausea on a daily basis for about three months now. After visiting my herbalist friend, I understand it to be a case of liver overload. The fluctiations in hormones overwork the liver, causing a "sick" feeling in the chest and stomach area.
Now I drink dandelion tea three times a day to tonify the liver and it seems to be working Edible flowers and wild plants have some amazing properties...along with tasting deliciious! Hi -
Excellent ideas Tia Lin about the nausea. What works good also is... Peppermint oil - 1 drop under the tongue and swollow or in a cup of water w/one drop. Peppermint tea is good for nausea (I think Leanne recommends that) and Dearest once said that cut some slices of fresh lemon and add it with hot water- kinda like lemon tea - and that works ok too. One of the side effect of peri-meno. is the pitts isn't it. I don't seem to have the nausea as much as I did 2 years ago - so I must be going thru peri-meno. tunnel Blessings, Stacy -------------------- Learning is a Treasure that follow it's owner everywhere.

ale before bed and in morning - worked well. Also, a long walk last night (although difficult with nausea) may have helped. Woke-up feeling better and adding ginger to everything! Wow, nausea is worse than it all put-together! Will try milk thistle also - thanks all! -------------------- Mary R.

I am not going mad after all. I have had nausea for the last 8 months 24/7. I will try the tea's recommended and will pray for relief. What have I done to deserve nausea and the shakes 24/7. PS the doctor's haven't got a clue about any of it!

I too have been experiencing nausea - (I found this discussion by googling
nausea and perimenopause). I am totally at the end of my rope. While I have had some nausea that comes and goes- now - for more than a week I have woken up nauseated and retching. This lasts all morning and many times most of the day. When the nauseated feeling subsides, I am just plain exhausted. I don't throw up, just feel like I need to. I went to a clinic and the doctor thought it might be reflux or gastritis and put me on nexium. After four days of nexium, there is absolutely no difference. It is so frustrating and exhausting trying to figure out what is hormones and what is real disease. I started this latest episode three days before my period so I thought it might be related to that. But my period is ended and still the same nausea. Most of the books on the subject barely touch on it, but one book, THE PAUSE, by Lonnie Barbach, says nausea can be caused by either too much estrogen or too much progesterone. (BIG HELP!). Everything I've read online indicates that nausea and menopause are not related, but this message board and my own experience is making me think it is hormones. I'm sorry to see that some of you have been having nausea even longer than me. I am in tears over the way I feel, so I can imagine how you must feel. I am praying that I just wake up one day soon and it goes away. Has anyone had a doctor say that this nausea is related to peri or menopause? |

I can't tell you how relieving it is to have this site. I thought I was dying with this bleeding for weeks and the nausea! When you google "nausea" and bleeding, perimenopause doesn't come up - uterine cancer does.
I'm 49 this coming Monday and am suffering from irregular periods - first skipping two months and now gushers coming a week apart and lasting 2-3 weeks at a time. The nausea comes in waves - I feel pregnant! Bloating, cramps, leg cramps, lower back pain. The strange thing is the lack of breast soreness with periods like I used to have. Can anyone relate to these symptoms? HELP!! I see an OB-GYN today. Will let you know what he says. |

I had the same thing for a number of years as well as the breast tenderness going away sometimes before I got my period. I will be 50 at the end of this year and things have been getting worse all the time. I have been going through this for about 5 years now. I missed my period for 6 months then I got it, I am again at 6 months. I am hoping from what I have read here that after I go a year I will start feeling better. As I started missing my periods the symptoms got worse. Well that’s my journey good luck!!!! I got quite nauseated when I would have heavy periods the last few years. Never used to happen. Since I've started the Revival shakes my periods are "normal" and no more nausea. I've also upped my liver herbs (milk thistle and dandelion) so if Tia Lin's herbalist is right maybe that's helping?

Hey, glad to have found you all here, but sorry that you're all suffering as much as I am. Just got my period today and while a lot of my anxiety has passed (for the moment) and I did manage 5 hours of sleep last night(unassisted), right now I feel like I'm going to 'toss my cookies'. What the heck is this menopause thing? Not a disease? Sure feels like it. Talked to Pete H. about bio identical HRT and will be having a hormone test on Tuesday. Hope he can help to put some order back in my life...help me to find center. Anyway, before all is said and done, I guess we'll all have dealt with near about every one of the symptoms of this fabulous 'change of life'. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Hello Ladies,
I've just found this web site and this is my first post. I also found this thread by googling for menopause and nausea. So maybe I'm not being a hypochondriac? I frequently get a sick feeling in my upper stomach area, right below my rib cage, which almost seems to be brought on by certains sitting positions where I may be a bit crunched over. I have to lie down and straighten out to lessen the feeling, though it doesn't go away. It's constant as are the headaches. It's so draining to have a headache every morning upon waking. How I long to wake up feeling good, refreshed. I'm so depressed, crying all the time, creaky, soft and sick. I feel sorry for my husband. He's as loving as you could want, but how long can he put up with me? Plus, I have a 5 year-old son. I'll be 48 in December which I thought a bit young to be going through this, but my mother says she began when she was 46. I feel bad when my little one wants to play, and all I want to do is rest. |

lgrillo,
welcome, you've come to the right place. I think I felt all the same things as you a few months ago. I could not understand how my husband would want to put up with me I was so sick and anxious. I've now lost 20 lbs. thanks to this 'change.' However, this is great information on this website. You can search the whole site by symptoms or solutions you may be looking at. I guess the good news is that we have so many options now to feel better. I'm not there yet but I am learning little by little what helps the symptoms for me. -------------------- "Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul." Samuel Ullman

I can identify with you lgrillo. I don't know anyone else going through
what I am, but your problems sound similar. I'm 46 with a soon to be nine year old boy and every morning for the past month I've woken up with either nausea, a headache or both. It goes away as the day wear on, but I cannot figure out why I awaken with it every day. I went to regular doctor and gastroenterologist. While I found out I have small polyps on my gall bladder, they said this doesn't explain nausea. All the doctors dismiss hormones as reason for nausea so here I sit waiting for this latest thing to go away. I too am getting depressed at how awful I feel. My mother died when I was young, so I don't know if she experienced it. I'm really puzzled by the clockwork nature of this headache/nausea thing (I get it now every morning upon awakening). If its hormonal fluctuations, why does it get better as the day wears on. Does any one have a similar experience? |

lidge26,
You've described how I feel exactly. I wake up every day with a headache and nausea, and then it goes away as the day wears on, although sometimes it lasts for the better part of the day. It's exhausting. I also have a hard time holding back tears. I'm just weepy all the time. I'm going to cut out the artificial sweetner I use in my coffee since from reading this web site that seems to bring on these types of symptoms. I'll also switch to decaf and see if it helps. Hang in there, girlfriend, you are not alone. Lynn (lgrillo) |

Lynn - I too feel on the verge of tears much of the time. I've read that nausea and headaches can sometimes be a sign of depression and anxiety, but quite frankly the nausea and headaches feel so "physical" that is hard to fathom it could account for it. I'm going to speak with a therapist for the first time in my life this month because I really can't take feeling like this every day. I'll try anything.
I use something called Stevia in my coffee which is natural and very sweet. It may taste strange at first, but you get used to it. It really hasn't made a difference for me, but you never know. I think overall my diet could be better, but when you are nauseated, you tend to eat what you can tolerate, not necessarily what is good for you. It is so frustrating that doctors don't recognize this as potentially hormonal. I have loads of books on perimenopause and I've only read nausea mentioned in one book and it makes it seem like just "mild queasiness" that is no big deal. I'm starting to think that something happens during the sleep cycle that causes the morning nausea. Perhaps something to do with adrenaline highs or lows which I think occur betwen certain early morning hours. I just don't know why these things strike at this time of life and what we can do about them. I know its tough with a young child at home - my son is so understanding but I feel awful that he sees me feeling like hell every morning. I truly hope you find relief - I know how awful it is - You hang in there too! |

Nausea was with me for about one (1) year and since left only to be replaced with other symptoms, but ginger tea worked for me.

Igrillo,
I also lost 20 lbs in about four months due to my anxiety. My anxiety has gotten much better over time and I have gained back about 10 lbs since July 12. I am 5'6 and I weigh 140 lbs so when I lost the 20 lbs it was really noticable. I feel so much now that I have gained some weight back. I did not do anything except let time pass and as time went on my appetite increased as my anxiety decreased some. I am still anxious alot but my most bothersome symptom right now is the lightheaded/off balance feeling! Hang in there, Jill~ -------------------- If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

I have definitely tied my nausea to adrenaline. I usually start getting rushes around 2am. I wake up with a start and my arms tingle. Bad nights it goes this way every 2 hours. Good nights I can still rest but wake up every 2 hours. By morning I am sick to my stomach. It fades by dinner. A lot of women have mentioned nausea as an early peri symptom.

It is so reassuring to find this site and to know that I am not crazy. I have been suffering with menopausal symtoms for 6 years and mainly the nausea. In the last 2 years my periods have mostly stopped but the nausea and feeling sick to my stomach are with me constantly. Doctors have not been helpful saying it coud not be hormones yet tests of all sorts have showed nothing. I am desperate and pushing hard on a new doctor that I will see this week. I am going to pursue the idea of the liver being connected to this and see what happens. It is so helpful hearing about all your stories.

CB,
I have been sooooo sick to my stomach that I've lost 20 lbs and still counting down. I know this is hormone related because I've completly changed my diet. Out with all the starches and poultry. In with the red meat and salads - both of which I hate. I can stand certain smells, etc. Feel like I'm pregnant forever! -------------------- "Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul." Samuel Ullman

Rendy,
I know what you are going through; it is totally like morning sickness but all the time. So many smells make me gag. I have been convinced this is hormones for several years now, but have not found the miracle combination to curb this. I feel so bad most of time that it is hard to get a health diet going or exercise. Knowing that others understand what we are experiencing is a helpful start and I am going to push with my doctor this week to get me started on something. CB |
