Hi Mark777,
Welcome to Power-Surge! Yes, dizziness with anxiety is something I've experienced, and if you spend some time going through the message-boards, you'll see lots of other women have experienced this as well. I did not have hyperventilating, either. Just a sense of being off-kilter, not quite seeing straight, and full of anxious feelings. Very tiring! I suspect it's related to perimenopausal changes in the brain. I've been on anti-depressants for awhile, and they've helped with this. You might be encouraged to go through some of the other messages about dizziness (you can do a search on it), and see what others have to say about their experiences. Hang in! QUOTE what kind of antidep do they suggest..because i only get these if i walk..mostly far from thehouse other than that i am pertfectly normal. I get dizziness with anxiety. I've never hyperventilated, but I have experienced fast heart beat and skipped beats. They usually start you on Zoloft or Paxil for anxiety disorder. I had a hard time with Zoloft, but did really well on Paxil. -------------------- Dianne

My very first and worst symptom was anxiety and then the dizziness. I have posted before that I thought I was surely dying. I didn't get the hyperventilation, but I did experience skipped heart beats. What a crazy thing this perimenopause is. This site has been a life-saver for me. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't check in and thank Alice for creating this site. You're in good company here. Donna

QUOTE I have posted before that I thought I was surely dying Yes, I have felt this way many times. It's so bad at night some times, that I'm sure that I will not make it till morning. I really hate relying on the xanax, but if it gets me through... You are in good company here. It seems that one of the first symptoms that most of us experience in Peri is the anxiety. -------------------- Dianne

I haven't figured out if I am perimenopausal yet, but I do get this symptom. Most times (unless I'm having a full-blown panic attack), I do not get an increased heart rate. I have a problem when I go out to exercise (which is walking for me). Sometime I just feel so off. It worse when I exercise at night. I have attributed to an inner ear problem and when I walk it is like my body cannot orient itself properly to what it sees (the scenery passing by). This causes me an incredible amount of anxiety. It happens so frequently now, though, that I've sort of gotten over the anxiety of it and just live with it.

"...just live with it." And that really is the key. Focus on "I'm okay; this too shall pass." Belly breathe to the count of five or six a minute for about 15 minutes a day and force your mind on something more pleasant. It takes time but believe me, if I didn't do this, I couldn't go to work, would be a shut in and a "basket case." This all happened about three years after entering post menopause. Peri produced "crazy" emotional feelings. Post is producing the vaso-motor symptoms. Progest helped with the peri. Mind over matter is helping with the post and a little biest as my doctor doesn't believe in NHRT, so I have been spacking out what I have left. Will try black cohosh.

dizziness and the inability to walk properly has caused me to give up my job....
I am a teacher and was in a highschool this fall....anxiety hit this fall after a bout with the cold...then each day the anxiety got worse...I had to walk close to the wall or the lockers...so wobbly on my feet.... other teachers were wondering what was wrong with me....I told them I had vertigo...that after the cold my inner ear was affected...no one would have understood anxiety.... I was so wobbly on my feet that others asked me if I was alright.... I knew I had to do something...this was not going to go away on its own...my decision to take Zoloft meant that I would have to stop working in order to be able to cope with the side effects... it is almost 6 weeks on Zoloft...26 mg...I am feeling better...the dizziness while walking is getting better too...but not completely there yet.... hope my story helps others.... |

it is the anxiety that stopped me from working...
but I also knew that to deal with the side effects of Zoloft I could not work...when I took Celexa three and a half years ago, I spent a month in bed...and would have given it up had it not been for some very supportive people that wrote to me every day encouraging me to continue...... Zoloft side effects are not as severe as Celexa was but still the anxiety got worse...nausea..dizziness..weakness...no way could I stand up in front of students and cope... I am somewhat better now...but still not ready to take on work... hope you are doing better... let me know.... |
