I am 41 and have had symptoms of feelings of electricity in body, feeling of rubber band being snapped under the skin, like adreneline rush, tingles in body and head, and twitches and jerking in body, as as result of drop in estrogen the last 2 weeks of cycle. Heard this was an uncommon premenopause symptom. Does anyone else have this and how did you get relief? Thanks so much!

Hi Sharonrose,]Yes, unfortunately I have had this too. The adrenaline rushes aren't as bad for me now since my periods stopped back June, but I used to get so scared ! It made me feel crazy almost. I still get the rubber band feeling in my head before a hot flash sometimes. It's not fun........ It is a meno symptom though so try not to worry about it like I did. On the plus side- I didn't have to worry about gaining weight! The adrenaline kept me very slim! Now since it has quieted down I"m gaining weight.....Suzie

I have those symptoms also. Had read about rubber-band snapping feeling, but had not heard anyone with twitching/jerking. I have had that the last couple of months or so.
Now I'm going to pay attention to any pattern relating to cycle with that. I have problems mostly in legs (Mostly right leg, calf, ankle, foot) with tingling, burning, pain. Have heard that is also hormonal imbalance. Talked to my doc about legs, he wanted to put me on LOW dose of medication that is used for Parkinson's disease and adjust if needed. I DON'T THINK SO!!! This was with just one visit about this. Started Revival Soy little over a month now and have notice some great improvement with certain areas, hopefully others will follow. -------------------- yo

Take CALCIUM! It helps calm and deaden the nerve endings and will help you sleep better, too. I get this at night. It's sometimes called "restless leg syndrome" but it feels more like my legs are wired to a power transformer that has short circuited. Calcium also helps deaden the pain from sciatica, when I get that. Hope that helps!

Wow! I didn't know calcium helps w/sciatica pain! I just bought a box of Viactiv chewables - guess I better start taking them!! And if it also helps with the 'electric hormone shocks"........then that's a bonus! Thanks for the tip!HUGGGERS! Kleeo ( )"o)

tiamaria , if you don't mind me asking, what kind of calcium do you take. My husband and I have been using coral calcium and tried a couple of different ones. The one we like, the health market can't keep it in stock, always sold out.
My doc did say my symptoms sound like restless leg syndrome, I did a search on line and read about it. They do hurt mostly when at rest and at night. But did not want to take the med he prescriped after reading about it. We just bought coral calcium by Richard Barefoot, don't know if you have heard of him. Going to start it. Also since using Revival Soy, my legs don't hurt as much, totally tolerable at this point. Also physical symptoms of perimenopause have seemed to lessen. Thanks, yo -------------------- yo

Does anyone ever get the feeling like they just can't slow their body down? Like they could run a marathon? Maybe this is like an adrenaline rush. When I have this I can't sleep at night. I'll fall asleep and 50 minutes later I'm awake and cannot get back to sleep. The next day I'm not very tired either. Am I going nuts???? By the way, I've had my period for a month now and am moving on to a specialist next week. Being on the pill hasn't helped.

That was my first symptom of perimenopause, Mrs.Squirrel. The only thing is - nobody told me it was a symptom, so I didn't know what was going on ! It wasn't until other symptoms appeared and I found this website that I understood what was happening to my body. Suzie

I've had the "rubber band" snap for most of my life, so I never related it to menopause later in life. It usually "snaps" in my neck and startles me for a moment. Also, the little electric "shocks" and burning (especially in the legs) can be a tiny blood vessel breaking--spider veins. That's what it feels like when it happens to me. Restless leg syndrome is more of a twitching or jumping of the muscles in the legs. I've also had times when all of a sudden it feels like someone has lightly tapped me on the back--when I'm all by myself. Anyone ever have this happen to them? (And no--I don't think it's a ghost!)Deb

For those of you with the rubber band thing. I have a strange similar symptom - maybe you can help me out. Sometimes, not all, when I get startled - step off a curb I didn't see, hit a speed bump too hard, and last night, during a hot flash, I get this quick tingly electrical feeling in my face/sinus area. Sometimes thru the top of my head. I never connected with hormones til last night. Everytime I get up to go to the bathroom, I crawl back in bed and have a major hot flash for about 5 min. VERY frustrating.
thanks

I have been having this weird electrical pulse kinda feeling through my whole body when i'm lying in bed at night. It's kinda the same feeling as touching an electric fence, except it doesn't hurt.It doesn't feel bad and it doesn't feel good at the same time,it just feels really weird and i have a cold chill along with it.I have had these on and off before, but now they are feeling more powerful and lasting longer.I don't know how to describe it other than an electrical/pulsating/vibrating sensation....anyone else experience this?(and sorry if i have posted about this in the past)

I have had sensations that I consider electrical feeling for years and I know it is related to anxiety. Sometimes, like right now, I feel this crawly feeling on my scalp. Sometimes it feels like there might be bugs massaging my head. I know it is nerves becuz if I took a Valium it would subside. It is a weird feeling that is very hard to describe.

Yes, ladies, many of us have had this electrical feeling, including Dearest. I know it is very frightening, but if you read some of the past posts on this matter, you'll see you are definitely not alone! It will pass, I promise!
Hugs,

I have read your posts with great interest, because this is about the only symptom I have not had--the buzzing rubberband feeling. I think I might have had the restless leg thing, because when I'm watching TV at night or I'm in bed, my legs feel like they are itching inside or something and I have to keep moving them, but it doesn't help. I found that if I walked briskly three or four days a week for 45 minutes or so, it eased the feeling. They have said some women get an "aura" before a hot flash, which is a kind of warning or something. Havent' had that either, just the flash. Had a boomerang flash the other day and I had to sit down for a minute. It's always accompanied by nausea, mild dizziness, and sort of a depressed feeling. Here I am almost two years post meno, and still get boomerang hot flashes once in a while. Guess I should be glad the rest of them are not so bad, just a hot feeling and sometimes sweating.

I know the electrical feeling i get isn't anxiety or anything,as a matter of fact, sometimes it feels soothing to me when i'm trying to get to sleep. It's just weird because it's my entire body, not just one certain spot, that's why i'd like to know if anyone else has this. It's more of a vibration than anything else.

I have been doing some research on this, and some people think this electrical feeling happens as you're getting ready to have an out of body experience.....LOL,i don't believe that....if i could leave my body,i definitely would, especially when i'm having a bad day or high anxiety!

I'm soooo glad I found other people who have had this too. In fact, I'm getting it right now. It was really scary.

MoonShadow, as one who has suffered with this off and on for years, let me tell you -- this definitely stops! I hardly ever have it now (I'm 55) and when I do, it always just in a tiny splotch like the instep of my foot, or the tip of my finger. I used to have it everywhere, and it scared the bejeebers out of me! Don't worry; it will go away!
Hugs,
Meryl

Alice, I work from home too, and I also suffer from the same things you mentioned. I know the stomach and nausea problems are definitely related to anxiety, and once you can conquer that you will be fine! I'm still working on it, but it gets better every day! Try to relax, maybe take a yoga class, a glass of wine now and then. I think it will help, although the wine can bring on flashes, so don't have too much!
Hugs,
Meryl
