Hi All,
I just ran across this site today. For the last 3 years I have had this burning sensation mostly on my face, arms and abdomen. Sometimes my lips, mouth and throat burn too. It is a random thing sometimes lasting as long as a week or more at a time. I have been to all kinds of Dr.s mostly at Vanderbilt University Hospital. No one has been able to help me. One put me on amytriptaline and that helped some. I was wondering if any of you have water purifiers at your house? My problems started the day we put a water purifier on our refridgerator. I did not associat it at first and the burning was random. Recently I noticed that when I water or use ice from my tap or refridgerator door the burning starts again. I haven't gotten up the nerve to actually put this theory to test and have been mostly drinking soft drinks or distilled water. This is driving me crazy. I had a partial hystorectomy 18 years ago. I was told that I should start menopause 5 years after that. Any thoughts? Burn |

Hi Burn,Im sorry you are feeling this way i know exactly how your feeling.2 or so yrs ago,out of the blue i started getting this feeling my skin was sunburned, mostly on my face.I would get almost a woosh feeing and then my face and neck would feel like they were burning.I would look to see if i was red and nothing.I didnt sweat so i didnt associate it with a "hot flash" To make a long story short i though i was dieing of some deadly disease.I went to my gyno and she explained to me that what i was having was a precurser to a hot flash and that not all hot flashes a atypical. Power surge has a list of 35 symptoms of meno, you will see a description of this symptom. It will make you feel a 100% better

I am so glad I found this site. I had a hysterectomy about two years ago, but just started getting hot flashes on a semi-regular basis. I have been diagnosed with Lupus and am on medication. But I have developed a burning sensation on my thighs over the last week or so. Question: Has anyone experienced a burning sensation almost pinching sensation where there right leg meets with your pelvis? This started the same time as the burning. I have also had the numbness and tingling sensation in my hands and feet.
Some of the responses mention Gold Bond for the brning or stretching for numbness. Does anyone else have any other recommendations? |

Hi,
I've just found this site, as i was having these symtoms, and found I am not alone, I am 50, menapausal, i also have a panic disorder and depression. I have actually been feeling quite good lately, but for the past two days have had this burning sensation on my arm, like it was burned with steam from a pot or a sun burn, I see many have this problem, but can you offer why this happens, since I am getting a bit freaked out by the whole thing, so any help would be great, thanks |

Hello
I also just began to have the burning sensation on my right calf only. It has been going on for about four days now and it is in just one place on my calf. It only lasts a few seconds but feels like it is on fire. It isn't as bad today but I still have it. I am sorry I have no idea why but it seems like alot of women experience this someplace on them. I would have been very nervous if I had not read about this before. It sure is a strange feeling. Kim |

Hello, My name is Carol.
I've just joined. I'm 45 and having alot of the same problems. My worst problem that I've delt with for 5 yrs. now is that I get very anxious around people or situations and start feeling a burning sensation coming up my neck and face. I'm on paxil 30mg. and that seems to help most of the time. Some times I break out in a blotchy welt-like rash on my neck. This is very embarassing for me. I'll do it sometimes around people that I love and trust. Not just strangers...........I feel like such a freak, who can't handle a conversation! Does anyone out there have this rash appear? It goes away after awhile, but sometimes it last so long. Help- Carol -------------------- [SIZE=7][COLOR=red][FONT=Geneva]

I've just started getting this sunburn feeling all over my back, shoulders and arms. Am very worried - any advice ? Hi fellow aliens from another planet. I thought I was the only one with the burning feeling on the skin, the prickly feeling on the face. So I thought I was from another planet! I was so surpise to find out that there are people out there like me! I have gone to, lets see? 8 doctors! Every one looked at me like I was nuts with the burning thing! My blood worked showed last year when all this started that I was not menopausal. One said it was panic attacks! Yes, panic attacks from the burning! Skin doctor said that it was internal hives????????So I did the steroids for one month......that did bring relief......but it did not go away. So that doctor told me to back to my MD. I started looking for another MD. Found one that did not look at me like was crazy..he sent me to a neurologist, to rule out stuff, gave me test to rule out bad stuff, all that came out normal. I was already going to a obgyn, and he told me that my burning was not menopause and he would see me in June (this year June) for my annual! The new MD sent me to another obgyn and this one gave me compound harmons that really helped with the heat on my face, it did help a little on the burning, I have good days and bad days...but to this date I have not found anything that has stopped them! As I look back to last year; that year was very stressful for me, so maybe the stress causes that burning to come on........New md put me on xanax.......... I notice that if I put an ice pack on the burning it helps it a lot. I have been to a chropractor, did the whole nine yards with him ( it did not help)! Tuesday I am going to a acupuncturist.......going to see if that works....My story from last year is long, so I only gave you bits and pieces. I started all this at 52 and now 53 and I can not wait for this to stop........Has anything help you guys with the burning????? |

I posted this in "Bioidenical Hormones" but thought I might get a response here too.
I'll try not to make this too long... I am 29 years old & just had my third child in mid March. When he was around 6 weeks old, I began having achey knees & feet. I have more floaters than usual & have been experiencing an all over sunburned feeling on my skin that started out on the back of my head & neck, but is now everywhere, recently it has been at its worst on my feet. I've had some itchy-crawly feeling going on in my skin for the past couple of days as well. At first I thought Lyme disease & went on antibiotics or 6 weeks with no change. Blood tests for Lyme are not reliable enough to diagnose or dismiss it, it is a clinical diagnosis. So, either I have Lyme & the antibiotics didn't touch it or, I don't have Lyme. I spoke with a compounding pharmacist who believes I have a severe progesterone deficiency & wants to give me bioidentical therapy. My baby is now 4 months old & we are exclusively breastfeeding. When he was born, I was also nursing my toddler. My baby is just over 18 pounds, a big boy! Progesterone, as I understand it, is supposed to be low after birth & while breastfeeding, I wonder if mine is extreme because of so much milk production. I got myself into a panic after reading that Lyme can be transmitted through breastmilk, but didn't want to stop if I didn't know it was Lyme, so that's when the burning started, when the anxiety kicked in - it's been almost 2 months of burning skin. I have been to many doctors, haven't had any luck with any of them figuring this out. The only place I can find all of my symptoms are on the Lyme site & the menopause site, LOL. I can't find anything online about postpartum progesterone supplementation. I have however, found a forum of postpartum mom's who are experiencing moderate to severe joint pain. While researching progesterone's part in the body, I found that it's highest concentration is in the brain because it is necessary for nerve health & function. It also comprises the myelin sheath of peripheral nerves. So that part makes sense to me. What kind of a doctor should I go to to see if this may be the case? I don't necessarily want to take progesterone & cause my cycles to resume ow, I enjoyed an 18 month (+ 9 month) break with my last child, but I could relax a little if I knew this was all due to hormonal imbalance. Any thoughts? I am hoping that someone here will have some insight for me since you all seem to know what hormones are capable of. Thank you, Erin |

Erin,
I am sorry that you are going through this. I found this website yesterday and posted under Brokentoe. My name is Janie. I found another website that might help you it is mothering.com. There it post postpartum anxiety, which some of the moms have burning on their skin. I took a salvia test, after going to many doctors. I really don't think it is lyme! You would be real sick. This burning does not make me stop what I am doing, it is just so trying to have it. It is also trying that no doctor has been able to help the burning stop. I think I made a mistake when I went to an allegerist who gave me the salvia test. The test came back that my harmones were all out of balance. That include some of the brain harmones and women harmones. He wanted me to get on some supplements that would cost a bit of money and the insurance would not cover it. I talked to my doctor about it and how I had already spent so much money on test and doctors that could not afford more money. He sent me to obgyn who then put me on compond harmones. They really have help me, but I still have burning on my body. Not as bad, but it still is there. The mistake was not doing what the allergrist wanted me to do. It was a serious of supplements. I might go back to see him, maybe he will give me something that will help me. I really like My MD he has really help me. Wished I had had found him when this whole stuff started and I would have not spent so much money on other doctors, he is the one who sent me to the allergist and new obgyn. Then I think if the Allergist wanted to give supplements, maybe I can find supplements that will help me. I don't know? It's crazy! Janie |

Thanks Janie, hahahaha about the MDC mention - *I* was one of the mama's posting in Postpartum Anxiety about the burning skin! Too funny! I love Mothering.com
Hormones can do some whacky stuff it seems. I have some "indeterminate" bands on my Lyme test - talk about a lot of $$ - the test alone cost $650 out of pocket & it's inconclusive at best. I then shelled out another $130 for the follow up test, still no answers. Some Lyme docs would consider the test a positive with these symptoms, but some would dismiss it - the Lyme info is SO frightening, especially when a baby comes into play (& nursing toddler.) I can see how anxiety could have caused the burning. The last couple of days I've had the itchy crawlies too, ick. Thanks for the comforting words, I hope you get some answers for yourself too. Have you looked into progesterone? I don't know where you are in your reproductive life or if you have children, but I think after giving birth, all hormones are out of whack. You said you had levels tested for allergies - did you have your hormone levels checked? I am going to look into that, I don't want to take hormones if I can help it, but I realize that in some cases it is helpful. If I can find out that this is the reason for my odd symptoms, I can relax about it & ride it out. When I look back, I think my hormones have always been whacky, missed periods, odd cycles, very long cycles, odd hair patterns, crazy pms & cramps, cystic acne with cycles, etc.. ~Erin |

I swear as soon as you say something is gone it re-appears with a vengence!
For the last coupla days, I have felt good and of course when you feel good these days YOU NOTICE!.... Well, after saying to myself how good I felt - WHAM! today my burning neck returned with a vengence to the point that I just took halfa valium - CAN'T STAND THIS! Nothing has happened to bring this on. Yesterday and today were perfect new spring days and I was quite relaxed. Hot flushes/anxiety/throat pressure then burn getting progressively worse throughout the afternoon. It was an unusually warm day and if this had anything to do with it I am not looking forward to SUMMER! EVER AGAIN! BUMMER! I have become totally antisocial and a GRUMPY OLD WOMAN! -------------------- jimibugs ~ (((hugs)))

I just thought I'd read what everyone wrote about this burning sensation just to see what it is all about. Then as I was reading what you were talking about I realised it was a sensation I was having a few weeks ago day after day on and off all day. I would have a patch on the upper, outside part of my left arm that would just burn as if badly sunburnt. It would just slowly burn then disappear, wouldn't feel hot. I put it down to peri which I do to most things otherwise I'd always be at the doctors. He would probably look at me as if as if I were insane. How do have patches of skin that glow
How many peri symptoms am I going to have before this is over I'm afraid to look at the list incase another one starts Ciao Cheryl -------------------- Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preseved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Woo Hoo What a ride"

Thanks for that good news Jimi
Why do some have everything and others have few........I have a friend who just had a few hot flushes. I felt at a low today thinking with the flushes I want something done about this but don't know where to look. I rarely think like this as I try to be aware that this is peri and it is happening, there's not a lot you can do about it but after I think 6 years it's starting to wear thin. Sorry for being miserable today and venting in the wrong area.....tommorrow I will be different (I hope) Ciao Cheryl -------------------- Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preseved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Woo Hoo What a ride"
