Hiya,
What you're describing is a classic panic attack - I know because I've had them from around the age of 25. I no longer get them as I learnt how to deal with them effectively. The BEST advice I can give you is to read any books by Dr Claire Weekes (power over panic etc.) - what she says is so true and is sound good common sense. The more you "fear" them - the more they'll happen and they more you let them control you the more often you will get them. I often feel one impending but I immediately "let it happen" and it doesn't anymore. It only took me a few weeks to master the technique of letting it wash over me without getting anxious or fussed (I know it doesn't sound easy but it suprisingly is once you've read Dr Weekes works). I still suffer from some generalised anxiety but nowhere near what it used to be before applying her principles - and all of these are drug free also. Waking with a panic attack at night is distressing but the same principles can be used. The major key is NOT to "fight" it - fighting it produces even more adrenaline and will prolong the attack. The feeling in your head you describe is "depersonalisation" and common with panic attacks - so please don't be scared of them and tell them to "eff off"!! Dr Weekes books are widely available everywhere - they are now quite old but still recommended by most cognitive therapists. Best of luck - I will be praying for your relief!! xx -------------------- ~Mishkins~

That's what I'm talking about flashes without the heat.A couple of years ago I had the real adrenaline with them, tingly, lite headed, and nauseous.I'd tell my DH about the adrenaline coming up and he'd say "cool go for a run"

I keep calling what I have adrenaline rushes or surges but Im not sure that what they are......of course I think they are something serious........but they come out of no where and only last for about 20-30 secs.........they start in my stomach with a butterfly feeling then spread through out my body a numb and tingling feeling........but the scarest thing is my mind goes blank or I hear things that arent really going on.......Im not even sure Im describing it right but there doesnt seem to be anyway to really describe it right..........but I just feel like I leave my body for those few secs and nothing seems real......it only last for a few secs but scares the crap out of me...I sometimes go weeks without them but then they come back and I will have 1 or 2 a day..so Im wondering what others feel when having an "adrealine rush or surge"................Valerie also wanted to add that I take xanax and it doesnt make a difference with these adrenaline things.....it helps with anxiety but not these.....beta blockers helped when I started them but they have returned.........Valerie I am 8 years post and have these rushes once a month for about 3 days. They start in your abdomen and bang you get lightheaded and wierd things go through your head and they are gone. I feel that this happens when you should have had a period. They don't seem as bad as they were a year ago, however, I wish they go the BEEP away. I don't like things messing with my head! Take care |

Lumz makes an important point here. Our adrenal glands produce additional hormones, including estrogen. When the ovaries "pause," the adrenals work to compensate, which can cause adrenergic surges. These can range from uncomfortable to terrifying, depending on our stress levels. If we have a lot of outside stressors at the time our bodies are trying to compensate/rebalance, the symptoms seem to be much more intense. It's so important to slow down and take care of our spiritual and emotional selves! I am climbing out of a period of anxiety attacks that were so bad my mid section would "burn" when I had these surges. (I didn't realize what these were for several months). I do much the same as Mishkins describes above, and it is helping. In addition to accepting my situation and reducing stress, I have also focused on healthy nutrition, viatmin D, exercise, meridian tapping, and positive relationships.
Here is an important, informative quote from an article about adrenal fatigue/hormones from an article by Dr. Mercola @ Mercola.com: "Interestingly the very first step in normalizing sex hormones, either male or female, is to first address the adrenal hormone system. For example if you were to only measure female hormones and then replace them with bioidentical hormone therapy, you will virtually be guaranteed to fail because the weakened adrenals will never allow the hormones to equilibrate properly." I wish everyone here the very best as we make our way(s) through this journey... Hugs, JC |

Hello ladies Yes I also get these when awakening. Every friken morning... When I lay on the couch in the afternoon I will doze off for maybe 10 minutes and BAM I wake up with the surges. It kind of takes my breath away. So I try not to nap. Mine leave an almost electric taste in my mouth, hard to describe, starts in stomach like I am frightened but a harsher feeling and then inevitably the hot hot heat comes up the spine and the sweat is hideous. I hate napping, never liked it, always woke up feeling disoriented and sad and weepy, I think sleeping and catnapping are gifts!! But to enjoy a nap and then have these happen ... But one of the posts advised HRT or ERT so am going to look into that as well. I can't believe the fatigue I feel, until I get moving for a walk, that always brightens my body and mind up. -------------------- "It is the weak who are cruel, gentleness can only be expected from the strong"

I thought mine had gone away but the past two mornings I have woken up out of an okay sleep feeling surge-y. It didn't feel like restless legs just like rushes throughout my body...a little tingly...some heat, but not a real hot flash where I began to wet. Surges go all the way through me to my hands and feet. One other thing is that I am getting up almost every morning to go pee. That's how it was when I was pregnant but I'm NOT pregnant. I just finished a period or will by the end of today I think. I'd never had any of this surging before this past summer. I am almost 31. My OB/GYN did look at me like I was crazy and said he had NO idea why I was feeling this way. Some help he was... I am considering visiting an endocrinologist. Do you think that is a good move on my part?
By the way, I did take a half of a xanex this morning to just see if it was anxiety related and it didn't seem to make a difference. I think eating helps, but I'm not positive. |

Hi - I would have a thorough obs/gyne exam in the event you have a fibroid pressing on bladder, plus ask for bloodwork to determine your FSH levels as well as thyroid end endo levels. Sounds like your hormones are out of whack for some reason, but you shouldn't be having these surges and heats and sweats - unless it is around the time of your period?
When I had my period, I never had surges or sweats, just incredible pain and heavy flow like Niagara Falls. Now that I am totally over and in full meno I am just sweating it out - and the surges are weird, like your body is electrified, sometimes just once, but have counted up to 7 in a row with horrible sweats and heat like I cannot believe. I said to my husband "it is like your body is trying to start up its engine, but there is no gas, but it keeps trying ..." and I have decided against any ER or HRT, I will give it one full year to sweat the estrogen out (was on BCP since I was 16 ... so that is 41 years having a period ... and 37 years on the pill) as that is about as much as I can take. But that full feeling, like the bladder is full all the time - I have that now too, but no fibroids or anything pressing, have no idea why Mother Nature does this to us ... but you are young, have it checked out by a female gyne (sorry, I don't understand male obs/gyne docs, worked with a few ...). Good luck! -------------------- "It is the weak who are cruel, gentleness can only be expected from the strong"
