I'm 55...started this whole mess about 2-3 years ago, but more in the last 1 1/2 yrs...the skipping, spotting, normal for awhile, then skipping again, lighter periods, heavier periods, etc. Had normal cycles last fall...then last regular period in December. Nothing in January...just brown spotting in February...then nothing. During the time I had nothing I had the bad hot flashes, and miserable night sweats. I went to my doctor 6 weeks ago, because I just felt "weird". He did a transvaginal ultrasound again.....thickened lining, put me on Prometrium. That brought on a period. He also discovered a 3cm cyst on my right ovary. Waited 6 weeks...went back to doctor yesterday, and cyst is GONE! Yay! At least that's ONE positive thing! Also...a regular period started the day before I went to the doctor, so he had to do the ultrasound while I was bleeding heavily...ugh! He actually said that's the best time to see the ovaries! So I guess it was a good thing;) I was so concerned about the cyst, I forgot to ask him about my lining...he never said anything, and since I was obviously bleeding, my lining was shedding. Fibroids still there (3). So now I have this heavy period, after not having a normal one since December, except for the one brought on with Prometrium. I guess that's why its heavy? Its eased up alot today. This is the 3rd day..but now I'm noticing my LEFT ovary is twinging..this would be too early for ovulation, right?
Anyway....anyone my age, still dealing with all this? I'm so tired of it all. Haven't had a hot flash in ages, except maybe VERY VERY mild ones occasionally. So apparently my estrogen level is too high? He said to start the Prometrium again if I don't get a period for 3 months...when do they STOP trying to bring on a period?? Exasperated.............sigh..............thanks for any support! Carol |

Are they trying to treat the cysts and fibroids, give you a period or trying to make you feel better? If it were me I would opt for the feel better and worry about the rest when it happens. I don't think they should be "trying to bring on a period".

Really just "trying to make me feel better" at this point! LOL! No treatment for the cyst, as it disappeared. No treatment for the fibroids...had them a long time, and they should shrink as I approach menopause. Not really causing any problems or discomfort. He will only "bring on a period" with Prometrium if he determines in 3 months (assuming I've had no period during that time) that my lining is too thick on the ultrasound. My estrogen level has been very high, hence the thickened lining, sore breasts, etc. I assume when that starts to lessen, then everything else should too..........apparently this is all par for the course........
