Really hoping this is hormones and not something horrible as I have now been worked yup medically seven ways to Sunday. Was out with my sister and all of our children, walked into a building to look at some tour type stuff when I got really light headed and it just wouldn't leave. I slowed down and said I didn;t feel right then my sister told my my face was really flushed. I had to sit down on a step (giant stair case in the middle of a public building...it was awesome) until I felt like I was ok. Had this pressure at the back of my head then it was gone. This all set off some panic sytmptoms for me which was also great but it all subsided (i.e did not go into an actual panic attack...which I never had those before i started having this hormonal mess).
We went on, went to lunch and it happened again while I was sitting down eating only much more mild then passed. I just felt tired later but it passed. I called my doctors office to see if I should go in and they gave me some blah blah blah about hypoglycemic moment and said no biggie. I sure felt like a big deal especailly with the kids with us. I was so glad my sis was there. Has this happened to anyone? Oh, if it helps my period arrived yesterday and they are getting shorter as well as starting to get longer stretches in between (like 33 days for one then 31 then 35 etc.., while the actual bleed lasts strong for about the first 4 days then really drops off) I just need to feel ok and not lose what little confidence I was starting to gain in all of this. : ( |

It happens to me a lot especially right before and during my periods, which are like you, getting longer in between and lighter while they are here.
Try not to worry because it will only heighten your anxiety which makes the other symptoms worse. Hypoglycemia symptoms seem more prevelant at this time in our lives too because I have not suffered from that in the past but have to be careful now. Hope that you are feeling better. Hugs to you, Jeaninne -------------------- Hugs to all,

I am SO glad to not be alone on this one! Thank you so much! It really scared the poop out of me and caught me off guard. When I was telling the hubby later because I was worrying over what it might be, he reminded me that I just had an MRI in January not to mention I am like a frequent at the doctor these days. I keep joking and asking if I get a free x-ray with enough visits!
My headaches (old head/neck injury) are more regular these days which a PT said could be from hormones but when you have a three or four day head pain and then the near pass out surprise..*sigh* Makes it hard not to get a tad excited and anxious. Any idea what causes this sort of reaction? Is it just hormonal flux and does it ever ease up? Like maybe after menopause is really here? |

I had just the same thing happen to me yesterday. I know it is hormonal as it has happened to me a number of times before. I had a very bad period about 18 months ago, when I felt these hot flushes several times a day. You may notice that moving from outside to inside (ie a change of temperature) may set them off or if you are extremely tired or stressed or at a certain time of month. I experience them as feeling light headed and dizzy and then a couple of seconds will feel the flush radiate through my upper body. I know that a lot of women through peri, feel their hot flushes in lots of different ways, and personally I feel mine have changed as I have reached different stages of peri. I am now 43. Best of luck, and the doctor thing and excessive worry is also a symptom of peri, for me the flushes and worry go hand in had. Regards |

I have the same kinds of episodes and (like StitchNanny who also responded to your post) I have noticed that I have developed hypoglycemia with my peri. Lack of food, a period coming on, headaches, hot environment, stressful situation, etc. can bring it on - sometimes it just happens without warning...VERY SCARY!!! Over the past five years I have felt like I was going to pass out MANY times but haven't. The anxiety is awful. Hang in there! You're not alone - even if we don't know you personally, we on the forum can relate and feel for what you're going through. |

DizzyD
I have also had this a lot-especially since surgical menopause. It is very frightening, but I can only add to the other comments in that I have never actually passed out. Sometimes I feel really strange rather than dizzy-as though something inside me has dropped and that I am walking on a moving surface-like a boat. I sometimes also get a pressure feeling in my head and then a hot flush. I have been reassurred by my acupuncturist that it is actually a sudden drop in blood pressure that causes it-and also changes up and down which happen more when tired or stressed. Don't worry about it if that is possible I have learned to go with them until they pass. I have been having them for over three years and nothing terrible ever comes of them thank goodness janet c |

I heard that was from the inner ear and estrogen receptors there or something. Anyway, I will also get a sinking-pit-in-the-stomach feeling, like being on an elevator or rollercoaster. It's awful. BUT IT ALWAYS PASSES, and that's what I keep reminding myself. I won't die from this! I'm still alive and plan to remain so for a long time- worrying just makes things worse! DizzyD |
