Just need confirmation b4 i go to my doctor on friday please.Today t work i was in a classroom full of children working and then a load of heat fell on my top half and face and i was clammy and sweaty on my face neck and head and a real sense of doom which was horrible. The other teacher in the room wasnt paricularly hot.I then had strong heart palps and it all lasted about ten/fifteen minutes and i started shaking after it and i wasnt shaking before this all happened?and i was then left with horrendous anxiety all morning at work.Ive just come back from the gym and did an hour of cardio work and didnt sweat like that or feel that intense heat..i do not sweat a lot at all so i know this is different.I wasnt breathless or anything, so was this a hot flash or an anxiety attack whats the difference.I am on my period day 3 and im 41/42 almost. My mum and gran both started the change as they call it at 37....Also if this was a hot flash does anti anxiety med help them as i would consider them if they help me get through a days work..I have mentioned this to my doc that i thought things were hormonal and he just said im too young which after reading here i know im not......So basically my question is was it a hot flash followed by anxiety or was it just anxiety does that make you sweat like this im confused.......I d appreciate any help oh i have had these while ive been driving and just watching TV.....Am i going mad or am i hormonal which im hoping for as an answer.I am having erratic mood changes where i told my hubby we had nothing in common any more the other night which is not like me im so timid and in love with him hes fab....

Laxgirl-the feeling of doom is classic hot flush territory as are the palptations I am afraid. It does feel like an anxiety attack. It is an adrenaline surge but it is not under conscious control.
I don't think it is possible until it happens to you to believe that it is so outside conscious control. ohmy.gif
I suffered with anxiety for years and learned how to control it very well. However when the peri anxiety kicked in it was like another country. I was not able to control it-only understand and accept it for what it was.
My attacks first started around my period times in my mid 40s. As time went on they would come at all times of the month but again-hot flashes starting around your period is classic peri. You are not too young-given your family history.
You just need to accept that you are not causing them-they will happen regardless, although if you get worried about them it can make them worse.
You could try anti-anxiety meds but they won't in my opinion stop the hot flushes from coming. If you take a pill, by the time it kicks in, the attack has passed anyway.
You are in good company here-there are very many women in the same boat so don't worry-you are not going mad.

Sounds to me like a true hot flash, that gives you the dreaded feeling of doom after. It is awful and frightening the first few times. Even when you know what it is, it still can be scary. You are not too young. Many people here have started by 41 and esp. if your mom and grandmother were early. I hope you feel better today.

Oh yes, big time. I have been in stores when they hit and have to leave, quick. The food store really seemed bad for a while. I would get this wave of lightheadedness, then felt anxious, then a little sick to my stomach and then weird, sort of out of body like, then from the chest up, the heat would start, not always sweat, but really hot. It got really bad for a while. I didn't know if it was anxiety or hot flashes and I think it was anxiety due to the hot flash. Regardless of what it was called, it was bad. It doesn't happen as often since I am on birth control pills to regulate. The last few days though, they are back and the nights have been bad. I am due for my period Saturday, so must be getting low on estrogen.

You are totally normal. Keep coming here and reading old posts to help you through and keep posting and asking questions. We are here to help.

I am on seasonique. It seemed to cause some weight gain, but my doc says I have been the same for years, but it redistributes during meno. Not fair. It took a while to work with the anxiety, but life threw me a few curveballs all at once so i think it was a combo of that and hormones going wacky all at once. I needed xanax more then to help with the in betweens, but now only once in a while. I had alot of breakthrough bleeding in the first 9 months and it was very annoying, but now hardly at all. There are so many different pills, but my ob-gyn said he really recommended this for a while,I never felt weird or different, just eventually balanced.
