I am almost 42 years old and healthy. About a week ago I started getting a sensation on the back of my neck, it felt like I had a sunburn on my skin, but I don't. Within this last week this sensation has moved down my entire back, down my arms, a little on my tummy and legs. There's nothing on the skin, it looks normal, but it hurts against my clothes. I saw someone talking about this sensation being related to being perimenopausal, and having to do with hormonal changes. Is this true or am I nuts?
Thanks!

Sounds like it could be a version of a hot flash. I had both hot and cold flashes before going on hrt during this peri journey. I used to get some "warm ups" where it actually looked like a slightly pink sunburn on my chest, upper arms and front of legs while the rest of me was icy cold. Maybe some of the other ps ladies have some ideas/info for you. Have you spoken to your doc? Regards, JZZ

I've had burning tongue and burning ear. I have read and heard about the burning tongue, but not the ear. Sounds weird, but my right ear felt like someone was holding a match to it. This lasted a couple of hours and I've not had that sensation again. Thank God!

I have had the "sunburn" feeling when I was perimenopausal. I had it on my face, arms, back and neck. It didn't last for extended periods of time but would come and go and now, I've not had it for a long time. I have no doubt that it was related to hormones. Tkae care, Kathleen

Thank you so much for your response, you have no idea how much it helps to hear that I am not the only one going through this, and that this awful feeling WILL go away!

Dear'ksbecker'
No you are not nuts!Just going through some hormonal changes which can make the skin very itchy or as described almost like having a sunburn.

So calm down!Try to have warm baths and use unscented soap.eventually this feeling will go away though it may take time.My scalp was the itchiest place of all.I began to think must have lice!Nothing!I took an antihistamine prescribed by my Pharmacist and it did help.

There are many great ladies who will go through the journey with you.
Thank God you are very healthy

I had this same thing happen when I was at my worst 2 years ago. I became sensitive to everything. I could only sleep on 1000 thread count sheets that had been washed many times(I am really not spoiled LOL), I could not stand to be touched and had to be careful of what I wore. Also, even taking a shower hurt. I was so freaked out at the time. I thought I had some teerible disease. Went to doctors and had all kinds of tests done. Everything was good except for my hormones. Well it turned out to be menopause. My hormones were really a mess. It eventually went away. I did go on bhrt and still am. Every now and then when my symptoms really flare up, I still get the burning arm sensation. Try not to worry. Anxiety makes it worse. If you read Dr. Redmonds book, he mentions this as a symptom for hormonaly sensitive women. Hope this helps you feel more at ease.

Hugs
Linda

Thank you Linda! I love how people take the time to share their experiences and yes, this burning sensation is dictating what I wear, I hate it. But it helps tremendously to know that it's normal and that it WILL come to an end! How strange, the things your body goes through, and no wonder that women going through peri- and menopause are irritable, this is like a bad joke being played on us! :{
Thank you so much...I am feeling better already, after reading what others have responded!
Hugs back!

Hi,
this stuff is weird at best, I wish there was a way we could all be educated on this stuff BEFORE we start going through it, it would help tremendously! Thanks for your help!

Hi JZZ,
I spoke to my naturepath this morning and he said that he has plenty of natural remedies for me, to help me go through this a bit easier. It sure helps knowing WHAT it is that's going on with me. Thank you so much for your help!

I haven't experienced this (yet!) but I have a friend who did. She had it on the palms of her hands. She said it felt like they were on fire. And if she touched someone else, they could feel it, too. There was actual heat coming out of her hands. It eventually passed but she said it was really odd while it lasted.

Hi ladies,

Obviously I should have read down the topics before posting my own thread...I am experiencing this right now and it is SCARY. The back of my neck on the right side is so sore, feels like a sunburn, but is not...has only heightened my anxiety to a new degree...had to take the xanax. I mentioned in my other post that right before this started, my chest was noticeably red, like I had been outside all day but I had not...and now the neck soreness. Why does all of this stuff happen...its just not fair.

Hope everyone is well

Take good care,
Tracey

Yeah what is up with the sunburn feeling, experiencing the same bit off and on this past month too, it seems to come and go and I am wondering if its a version of the hot flashing bit? Feels weird when your scalp feels this way and hurts to even comb gently. Just glad that today things aren't feeling so sunburny and sensitive, I meant I am glad for the moment since things are so whacky not sure what will pop up during the rest of day, evening.

I know that once I read about the sunburn feeling being a symptom of perimenopause I was able to relax about it and little by little it's gone away almost completely! These forums are godsends, let me tell you, because I don't know how many doctors I would have had to visit before one finally explained it to me. Thank you to everyone that has become involved in responding and sharing their experiences!

Katherine I was starting to feel like a freak he he, but then when I found out that so many of the other gals on here have been experiencing this it was like WHEW!!!!!!!!!! its just one of those symtoms. Oh and its been the same here with other various body parts feeling like that too. Seems like I am alway's learning something new, when here not many years back I thought um yeah hot flashes and periods ending were the only signs of menopause and I thought all this only took a YEAR!!!!!!!! Oh my god I can't believe what we are finding ourselves into and having to deal with. I love this site, the other women are so much help here, just makes me feel like I am not alone in this. I have had the scalp soreness as well...not this time, but in the past. Never have I thought that it was related to all of this peri nonsense. It has hurt so badly on one side that I couldn't stand to wash my hair, much less style it or brush it. It lasted for a couple of days and then gone...cannot believe that others have had this too. I have often commented to my hubby about the scalp soreness and he looks at me like I'm crazy.

I too, am so thankful for these boards...if it wasn't for the wisdom of all of you beautiful ladies, I am confident that I would be in a mental hospital because this stuff SCARES me to absolutely no end....and my dr just writes me off. It is just not fair.

Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend.

Take good care and thanks for your help,
Tracey

you couldn,t make all of this up could you, a bunch of middle aged girls who have never met comparing various body/mind ailments ,it,s like "oh nobody will have this, sore hot sensitive area,s on head" and here you all are.
The relief of reading thru posts and finding someone else with the "same" is so overwhelming and liberating, as i,ve about given up telling my man and some friends about my never decreasing ailments like you said Tracy the looks they give sometimes,as if we have made it all up.
In fairness i would never of believed the endless list of symptoms, and then each symptom has its own agenda, which makes this so scary.
So hurrah for everyone of us,as it makes this journey a little easier.
My sore scalp has vanished today, how,s your,s Primitivrose?hope everyone else,s sore burning bits easier today.
My throat/ear hurts now!!!!!!!!!!!
Take care girls

Kath the last couple of day's the burning eased up so made things feel better like just the simple things of jumping in shower and washing hair without hurting, made me feel better so put on a little makeup today and found some pretty earrings to wear. Seriously when I have felt so crummy from this symptom its hard to try and do even a little something that helps perk up the spirits, so less sensitivity here at the moment , hope that your throat and ear are doing better. Hi also replied on another board about the burning/sunburn feeling on skin, believe it or not moisturiser helped a lot, even though it actually hurt to apply it, it only took two times for the tenderness to settle. I think it is part of skin changes due to peri.

Yes, I agree, applying cream helped a lot. But believe it or not what has helped the most is knowing "what" it is, and having heard from so many others that have gone through the same thing. I was able to relax about it and it has almost gone away completely. If and when it comes back I will be more relaxed and will be able to handle it better.
Thanks to everyone!
God bless!
