OK Ladies, I have noticed that since my severe decline in hormones ( I am not on HRT) I have recently developed the most unsightly neck. It looks like I have a gobbler. I actually have a big bulge of sagging skin. I am only 51 years old and if it weren't for this neck thing I think I would look ok. I have become obsessed with checking out other women's necks and can find no one with one as bad as mine. My question is this, Will hormone therapy help restore my sagging neck skin or am I going to have to cash in my 401 K for a little tuck ? Please send suggestions, I am feeling so old and haggy.
Gaudy Gal PS I have resisted the hormone therapy but am considering it as an option to prevent myself from withering away.

Hey GG
Feeling the same way you are. I swear I woke up one morning and did NOT know who that woman was is the mirror. It happened that fast! If I had a few thousand laying around that I didnt know what to do with I would have a quick lift done. I just started bhrt so I will let you know if it helps the "gobbler."

Mine too! Everything has started to get loose this year!! Even my husbands noticed my neck. I resort to wearing a high-necked jumper to hide it, which I can get away with here in the UK as the weather is always so cold!!

I have the extra chin so I've been doing facial exercises, they seem to be helping... I've done them in the past and they've helped them also!

Yes, Yes, YES...bio-identical hormone replacement will help....everything! I woke up one morning, too, and noticed that I looked like a dried-up prune. NO Kidding! ...it was like overnight. I needed an eye-lift, face lift, lipo, laser skin resurfacing, & etc. & etc. ....oh, and Jenny Craig. I don't need any of those things now. After a few months on bios, I can honestly say that everything has changed. Move over Valerie Bertinelli...

My Auntie taught me an exercise when I was just a little girl. It does help keep the neck & chin area looking nice.

However, if you are in a hormonal decline, BHRT would do wonders for your skin. Go and the web and research.

Ok...here is the exercise....

LOOK up at the ceiling. (easy, eh?) Neck area tight....head all of the way up....

Say A E I O U

turn to the right (still looking up) say it again...
do the other side.

I know this sounds simple, but it is very effective.

Do this in the morning....try not to let anyone see you do this.

(This is important! They will think that you have gone mad!)

Best wishes...
Shebee

Yes, that's one of them I got years ago from books that I read. They are exaggerated movements that you just hold for count of 10 or 20....and do regularly... I do chin up first, chin down with wide grin and hold, face left with lips and chin pulled to left and hold, then repeat with right and start all over.. Your face muscles will be fatigued, if they aren't you're not doing them correctly.

Here are a few that I got from ageless...

Neck and throat facial exercises

# 1

A great exercise is to sit upright, tilt your head back looking at the ceiling while keeping your lips closed and then start a chewing movement. You will feel the muscles working in your neck and throat area - and will be truly amazed at the results. Repeat 20 times.

# 2

Sit upright, tilt your head back looking at the ceiling, while keeping your lips closed and relaxed. Start puckering your lips together in a kiss and stretch the kiss, as if you were trying to kiss the ceiling. Keep your lips puckered for 10 counts, then relax, bring your head back to its normal position and repeat 5 times.

# 3

Sit upright, tilt your head back looking at the ceiling, while keeping your lips closed and relaxed. Open your lips and stick your tongue out as if you were trying to touch your chin with the tip of your tongue. Keep your tongue out in this position for 10 counts, and then return your tongue and head to its normal position.

# 4

Sit upright, tilt your head back looking at the ceiling, while keeping your lips closed and relaxed. Next move your lower lip over your top lip as far as possible and keep it there for a count of 5. Relax and repeat 5 times.

# 5

Lie on your bed, with your head hanging down over the edge. Slowly bring your head up towards your torso and keep it there for 10 counts. Relax and lower your head towards the floor again - repeat 5 times.

# 6

Sit upright and face forward and while keeping your lips together, separate your teeth by dropping your jaw and then push your jaw forward, keep for a count of 10, bring back to starting position and repeat

Best Wishes,

Hi GG

Were you still getting your period when it happened? I always thought that the skin went when the hormones were depleted but I have suffered some of the worst collagen loss during the past 6 mos of periods (albeit irregular) when I was getting some pretty high E levels. My doctor thinks it was due to the loss of P. She said that P is important for collagen. I know that I have also lost bone in the past couple of years. Have you seen any improvement over the past few months with HRT? I was afraid to mess with hormones while I was still getting a period (dumb, I know, but I haven't been the most rational in peri). I regret this and am wanting to start now (even though my symptoms have actually improved) to try to prevent more skin and bone loss. I am wondering if in the past couple of months, since you started HRT, you have seen any change in the "gobbler". I was heartened to read Shebee's report of skin improvement on hormones. Any one else out there seen any reversal of skin aging after starting HRT?
