This is a weird, and hard thing to actually describe, but if anyone out there has this, or HAS had this,....please post.. First, a few weeks ago, I had more of the FULL BLADDER feeling, which i hate, but at least, i was "going" more.... sure, sometimes it would feel like I really had to "go", and yet, there wasn't much at all.....and other times, I'd actually have to "go"! OH GOODIE! ...something NORMAL! But NOW.....it has swung the other way! NOW, it seems as though, no matter how much I drink.....I go very little! I figured, ok, I'm retaining water....but I'm really not swelling up anywhere in particular, except bloating in the abdomen, but i've been having that since peri started...on and off. I suppose it COULD be accumulating there, but, i don't know. So NOW, the prob. is.......that I have this very strange, uncomfortable feeling in my bladder area ..... i will describe this to the best of my ability ........it almost feels "numb", now, I know that sounds strange....but that's the only way i can describe it. It feels as though, when my bladder is full enough i suppose..., I DO get this sort of VAGUE pressure feeling (not normal), but not the normal feeling you get there, when you really do have to go....it's more of a VAGUE pressure, ...... it almost feels as though, the acutal nerves INSIDE the bladder, that tell you that your bladder is full, are "numb" (that's the only word i can think of), and as though, the VAGUE feeling of pressure, is because the bladder must be full enough, and must be pressing on nerves OUTSIDE the bladder, or on other nerves in the area .. it's hard to really put this into words. I just know, that when I wake up, after sleeping for a few hours, (say about 4-5 hours....WHEN I'M LUCKY!), it normally would have really felt like a NORMAL full bladder feeling, and then sure enough, I'd really have to go.....NOT NOW! NOW....even after sleeping for a few hours, I feel this VAGUE pressure there, as though, it's not really that "urgent", but yet at the same time, the pressure feeling is awful, very uncomfortable and annoying, and you can't really ignore it...so you go into the bathroom anyway....only to "go" a little bit. This is so darn weird! I've been dealing with this now , for about 10 days.......and of course, it makes me nervous.....because hey, i'm wondering where all the liquids I'm drinking are going! It's about a week or so before my period is due right now....but then again, latley my period has been "off", last month, it was two weeks late. So, who really knows. The feeling down in the very lower abdomen, right around the bladder area......is the feeling you get when you've tensed those muscles for a while....say, if you've been very tense over something, and without realizing it, you've tensed the abdominal muslces? Well, that's the feeling down by the bladder area. So, I tell myself to "relax" and i can feel that muscle there TRY to relax, and yet, I still have that feeling there....this is crazy! I don't know if this is hormonal or what! Well, ladies, thanks for reading this........and posting.....I seem to be dealing with bladder symptoms more and more.......darn this! thanks guys! -------------------- __________________

It's possible you have a bladder infection or kidney infection. If you have a kidney stone as it moves down the ureters you can feel pain in your flank area, then your back then it can seem as if its in or near your bladder. If, as the stone moves, it blocks the urine, that could account for you not urinating. But I am totally guessing here. You should have your doc do a urine test and see if he thinks you need further testing to rule out a kidney stone.

I didn't think the numb feeling in your bladder could possibly be a symptom. I've had that thought go through my head lately. I thought it was just some weird thing that popped in my head, I'm not sure why. It's a hard feeling to describe isn't it? So glad someone else mentioned it, I don't feel so crazy about it now. This site keeps my sanity when a new symptom pops up that I couldn't imagine anyone else could possibly have and low and behold, someone else does! It's great how you described the feeling. I couldn't figure out how to explain it. I also have lower back to my right side ache/pain but it will be for a few days then it's OK. I say OK because if I do to much it'll start aching so I figured it's old age kicking in!? -------------------- ![]() |

hi ladies. .... WOW is right! I can't believe there are others with this same feeling! At least, i don't feel so alone...thank you for posting. Okay, now, about a bladder or kidney infection....I've wondered about that myself, I've had UTI's before, and this doesn't seem that way at all....i have an AZO test kit here for me to test the urine, so i'll do that tomorrow, but i dont really feel like it's an infection .... but, I'll do the test thingy anyway. I've had this now for about a week or so....can't rem. exactly.... but, right before that, i had just the OPPOSITE! Which, makes me wonder if this isn't just hormonal.... i mean, first, I had the feeling of needing to pee constantly, and that lousy full bladder feeling, which i seem to get now ..... but there was no infection ..... just a full bladder FEELING, which would always get worse when i laid down! I'd have to sleep in weird positions. BUT NOW....THIS IS DIFFERENT again! NOW, like i had said, it seems like I'm not going ENOUGH, do you ladies have that too? Obviously, i must be going ENOUGH or there'd be some other pretty bad symptoms I think, but to ME, this is not normal, that's what I mean. Describing my bladder as "numb" was the only word i ccould think of! It's kind of funny to say that, but that's the feeling. However, just prior to THIS symptom, I had that full bladder feeling (which i just said..lol), but when I 'd go, it USUALLY was a normal amount at least.......NOW....it kind of just trickles out! Even if I've had drinks all day, so where is it going? DO YOU LADIES EXPERIENCE THIS? I was getting such bad cramps around the ovary area too a little while ago, i had to take some tylenol ...which at least helped that, but that other bladder feeling is still there! It's almost as if, I can feel that there is some form of anxiety down in there...i mean, PHYSICAL anxiety .... as if, either the muscles, or something, were slightly spasming, I don't know, it's so darn hard to describe. I am also very very tense, and jittery! I have this weird feeling in the vulva area, almost like a stinging feeling (say, like when your urine is to acidic) ..... this is NOT up in the urethra, this feeling is in the vulva area....so I used some Vagisil on that. I have no stinging or burning when urinating, no fever, and the back thing, comes and goes,.....shifts sides, and has now been helped by the tylenol....but the bladder feeling remains the same..... when I feel I have to "go", it feels as though there should be more in "there" to come out, and there isn't..... then my mind goes into wild thoughts of why that would be ........ that maybe my bladder is keeping some in there or whatever...UGH...I KNOW THAT SOUNDS NUTS...but when fear takes over, your thoughts become irrational. So, okay then.......where is the liquid going? Yes, I DO "go" during the day, obviously.............BUT, I don't end up peeing as much as I normally would've having drunk that much. I've had this before, but now, this bladder feeling too!!!!! I wish i could describe this better! But just like you ladies said, this is so darn hard to describe..... enough to say, that you dn't feel NORMAL in there, ..... and now, to boot, i'm getting this feeling in my lower abdomen and vagina, like I need to push something "out".....geez! (i think that is that "spasm" feeling in there.). I know you ladies said you felt this too, but if you could do me a favor,.............and please, try to describe it, the best you can.............maybe together, we can actually describe this feeling! THANKS EVERYONE!!!!! -------------------- __________________

THANKS EVERYONE!!!!! Dear'my darling' Sorry you are having this problem. It is very annoying. When I had a urine infection about a year ago I could actually be aware of my bladder as it was tense and hurt. However,I did not experience any fever either but when my urine was tested it turned out I had a mild infection. The Doctor also did an ultra sound of my kidneys too but Thank God all .tested normal. I believe it is best for your peace of mind to let your Doctor examine you.It could of course also be caused by anxiety levels but at least you will know, what if anything is going on. Sometimes there can be water retention due to Hormonal fluctuations and this enlarges the abdomen and sometimes legs and feet will swell too.Have also had experience of this about ten years ago and put on Diuretics and tablets for high blood pressure. Thankfully,I no longer suffer from this. Hope you get all the answers you need Please keep us posted Best Wishes Elizabeth |

Hi,
I think when you say that you feel like maybe there's a kind of "spasming," you may be hitting the nail on the head. I have pelvic-floor dysfunction - what this means, is that the muscles of the pelvic floor aren't acting normally. When it's time to urinate, sometimes they don't "let down" normally, but retain their tightness, making it very difficult for urine to pass. Other times, the urine flow feels normal. This can also manifest with pain in the lower back, or the uretha, or the vaginal area, too. The pelvic-floor muscles form a kind of "bowl," and all other female organs sit within them. It can also interfere with the ability to have an orgasm. One thing you might notice is if you urinate more easily after having a bowel movement (sorry if TMI). I think for some of us, the organs within "relax" with time, and interfere with one another. You describe part of the bladder as feeling "numb," and I think I know what you mean - it's out of kilter, not feeling as it normally should when it's filled with urine. I'd describe my own experience more as a kind of knotted-feeling, not quite a swelling, but like part of the bladder is just locked in place. Now you may NOT be dealing with pelvic-floor issues, but it might encourage you to bring the matter up to your doctor if you continue with this discomfort. With pelvic-floor dysfunction, it's not the bladder that's at fault; it's just how the bladder is reacting to the muscles around it. I was helped quite a lot by physical therapy, but it's essential to find a therapist who does internal work. If someone tells you that Kegel exercises would help, that's not necessarily the right approach. Also not a good idea is the old-fashioned "stretching" of the urethra with rods. I had a doctor do that, and it didn't make a bit of difference. These days fewer urologists are doing it, but there are still some who do. I found it uncomfortable, and the next morning, woke up and still was dribbling urine. Again, this may NOT be your problem - you may be facing a temporary thing that will correct itself. I cope with my situation by avoiding really acid foods (no use causing any sensitivity in the bladder itself), sitting on a hot-water bottle, warm baths, etc. The goal is to relax the pelvic-floor muscles. You will urinate more easily once they are relaxed. I used to wonder what the heck was happening with all the water I'd drunk, but it never hurt me to not be passing a lot of urine. A hot-water bottle against your lower back can help a lot with that discomfort. Hope this post doesn't scare you - it's not meant to. It's just that much of what you're describing sounds similar to what I've experienced. I remember being very dismayed when my issues began (in 1992). Do consider just bringing this up to your gynocologist, and seeing what he/she says. Mydarlin, I agree 100% with what Joliejacg said. I'm having the exactly same problem, but do not worry cause I know that I have a prolaps, and sometime bothers me on the right side of my lower back or left side , so when i'm using the bathroom i just stay longer to make sure my urine is complete out, that way i avoid baddler infection, its been working well for me so far. Is very important when you are urinaring stay longer make sure that your bladder is complete empty and lean foward to push any remaining of urine out of your bladder. Unfortunately all these c--p is part of the meno. Actually 2 years ago was when a doctor mentioned the word prolaps to me after my first bladder infection, and also remember he telling me that prolaps causes a lot of the bladders infections.

Another possibility is Group B strep. For me at least, it causes some similar sensations. My first one was about 4 years ago. Never heard of it till UTI tests came back ok, but I was still having problems (almost a month),so they sent it off to the lab, and to the antibiotics I went. I now recognize the symptoms and drink lots of corn silk tea right away, which usually clears things out, but I know if they last past a certain point, I have to go get a pee test and possibly antibiotics.
Just a thought, and hope y'all feel better. |

Hi, I think when you say that you feel like maybe there's a kind of "spasming," you may be hitting the nail on the head. I just happened upon this website my putting in Pelvic Floor Myalgia. I am supposed to have this and have just started going to a PT for it. I am hoping this will take the place of having my bladder repaired - I leak and have a lot of pain - when I wear pants that are too snug in the crouch area (TMI) I feel horrible spasms I guess I could say - all I know is it just hurts bad. I usually wear skirts and dresses if I am going to be somewhere for hours and have to sit. Thank you for the info about hot water bottles - I am going to purchase on and try that. Also, because I am post Menopausal I am starting to use Estrogen Cream with a syringe every other night to thicken up the tissue per the PT. So are you doing a lot better now? I am cutting down on coffee - what other things have you cut out of your diet? Kathryn |
