Well, after about a year and a half of suffering through hot flashes that were accompanied by vertigo, I have finally found a combination that works! I happened upon a board touting the virtues of cider vinegar for night sweats, so I started having a teaspoon or two (organic, not that regular strong stuff) in either a glass of apple juice or hot water with honey in the mornings and evenings. At the same time, I replaced my black cohosh and soy isoflavone tablets I was taking with Estroven Maximum Strength. I have a feeling I was needing the boron that is in both the cider and the Estroven, because I have not had a hot flash since November. I have also noticed a reduction in skin inflammation (I get really irritating cystic activity), heartburn, and joint pain. Cider vinegar has had many years of anecdotal symptom relief and I'm a convert. My gramps had a small glass every night before bed, and he did okay for a guy who smoked, drank, ate fatty fods, and never exercised.

Anyway, give the cider vinegar a go. It certainly has no side effects, the organic stuff tastes pretty good and if you mix it in juice, it just adds some tang - also nice on salad. If you don't have a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods or anything like that, you can get it on line from Bragg's. I'm not associated with them in any way.

Never heard that the ACV helped hot flashes????? I have been drink Braggs for a few years now. It helps my reflux. It has not helped my BP, but some people get relief. ACV has quite a reputation for helping many ailments

I use ot regularly as well...I hardly have ever had hot flashes but lately I tried using estrogen once a day instead of using the second dose and noticed I would get hot at bedtime... It did help my cousins BP and helps alleviate my appetite (which I try to take premenstrually), when I remember it!

Best Wishes,

I love apple cider vinegar in warm water first thing in the morning. I will have to take it again. My Mum remembers her mother taking it. I'm taking sage for hot flushes now and it seems to work but not 100% so I will start the vinegar again to see if it will just top it off. Thanks for the post on it biggrin.gif

Cheers choco

Honestly, I've never used that kind before but from what I've read everyone uses organic either Bragg's or other organic brands with the "mother" which means it has the pulp in it! You can go ahead and try it and see if it works for you, mix it in some hot water, add some honey if you wish, add a little baking soda, and stir and sip it with a stray... I usually add 2 T. in the a.m. and have one later, if I remember!

Vinegar is good for a lot of things! I use white vinegar for cleaning, etc.! Let us know how it goes...

Good luck to you...

I just remembered the other brand that is organic that I get from my local store in the health food section, which is Spectrum, I think it costs the same as Braggs at that same store almost $4.00! I think that same bottle is about $10.00 at the Health Food Store!

I have heard this stuff really helps alot of things also...I thought about it for reflux or gerd as I have that, but I headr it can either help or make is it worse due to the acid any advice....I am going to go get some anyway I suppose I will find out.....why does it help flashes anyway? I had one so strong the other night my ears literlaly looked purple and my nose was bright red ....and that is the mild part of the flashes for me the worst is the dizzines/vertigo and palpitations and if this helps tame them I will try it. HUGS mikki

Sunflower, a lot of people have had great success on another site I belong to with it helping with gurd. They usually take it after eating something so something is in their stomach and they take it as I described above with warm water, pinch of soda, and sip with a stray... You can start with 1 T. so that your body can adjust...

Hey Boo,

Yes my grandmother used to use it all the time too, for most ailments and she lived to 99.... I think it works because it definitely helps to regululate my blood sugar and has a lot of other vitamins and minerals in it. I also think it does something in terms of balancing out the bodies PH...some people use it to rinsh their hair! In terms of the hot flashes, I'm not sure why it works for some. I know I never had them before taking estrogen, only occasionally after consuming liquor... If I remember to take it before a higher carb meal or before liquor it helps because I don't have cravings, hangover, or upset stomach!

Best Wishes,

Hey Boo,

I hope it works for you on some level! My grandmother swore by it and so do a lot of people on the weight loss boards that I belong to, they use it for everything lol....even on their skin! My cousin swears that it gave him his libido back and lowered his blood pressure, of course, he uses it in a combo of lemon juice and honey....
