I have another question....
I've been taking walks at night. I've been walking about 2 to 3 miles for the past week. I get home and am understandably hot. Nothing new, right? I take a shower, do some computering and then go to bed. I'm a bit cold so I slip on some socks to keep warm. A few hours later I wake up SO HOT...like it's a hot, summer night. I don't sweat, I just feel like I have way too much heat in my body. Then I can't sleep. For the past two nights this has happened and I've been awake from about 2 a.m. up until 6 a.m. Right now my body is over heated but my nose, hands, and feet are cold and clammy feeling. I thunk I messed something up by walking and getting overheated. I was fine before I started up my walks again after quite some time due to CFS. So..without lots more info........is this typical of later stage peri hot flash, night "heats?" (I don't say sweats because there is no sweating). I just want to hop in the freezer. LOL So STRANGE right now to be hot, yet have cold and very clammy hands. Super Massive Hot Flashes...UGH Any input is much appreciated. I see my ob/gyn next week. And...I'm NOT walking tonight in the hope I overheated my thermostat and a night "off" will prove it and I'll have a normal night..... Thanks to you all in advance; you are helping me thru this journey and I'm very grateful for all of you! Hugs, HOT MAMA Sue -------------------- Music is balm for the soul and the spirit

Sue -
Sounds like a bona fide hot flash to me. Aren't they fun? I've had the swampy, sweaty flashes and I've had dry hot flashes. In fact, I have more dry hot flashes than wet ones. I love the dry flashes that feel like I'm going to spontaneous human combust at any time |

I was just saying that to a friend of mine! "I feel like I'm going to spontanious human combust!!!"
Oh, FUN isn't the word! :lol (I have to say My little cat enjoys the hot flashes...she was pressed up against me all last night and was purring and making little "biscuits" (that cat kneading thing they do)...so I'm her new "personal heater"!!! MEOW! Thanks Gia, I guess this is yet something else I'll endure until they pass. I'm 51...hopefully peri is almost over for me.....I"ve gone 4 months without a period so time will tell... Peri is scary I'm SO READY to be DONE already! Hugs!! Sue -------------------- Music is balm for the soul and the spirit

Sometimes I feel like I can actually torch the furniture that I'm sitting on when this happens. Of course the heart has to race a million miles an hour. You'll be ok, it's just so scary when symptoms start morphing into other symptoms.

Yeah, it is very unpleasant to say the least. I didn't know a "flash" could last so long......but this one has been going on since 1:30a.m. when I woke up with it...................and the nausea.....
YUCK. I don't remember signing up for ANY of this.....!!!!! Wake me when peri is over.... Peri is making me "sweary"... This is SO not "cool" -------------------- Music is balm for the soul and the spirit

Well.........guess what? I just got my period after 4 months.
So maybe the hot flashes are due to that..... I need a break. A long Break.... *sigh* I hope this one won't be a flooding one....I"m off for awhile to read and rest up. Hugs, Sue the hot mama who is sick of peri -------------------- Music is balm for the soul and the spirit

I have had a wide variety of hot flashes, including overheating at night. I would say it's most likely a night sweat minus the sweat. :-) Mine come and go seemingly at random. I am now supplementing estradiol and it's helped a lot, I went from waking up many times in the middle of the night to waking up once or twice.
-------------------- I wish all of you the best of luck ! Remember, whether your peri or fully menopausal, TRY BHRT FIRST ! You might be surprised at how well it relieves your symptoms and how many unexpected benefits you experience ! I feel better now at age 48 than I did at age 40 !

I'm just starting to keep a journal and see if I can find a trend. -------------------- 41 AND NEW TO PERI!

I have the same thing. The night sweats without the sweat. It is like someone turned the electric blanket up on high. I kick off the covers several times during the night. I keep my room frigid at night, with the window open most of the time and no heat on. And there I am laying on top of the covers, 50 degrees or cooler in my bedroom, and I am still hot!

Yes, I went through a period of about a year where I did the blanket boogie all night long--covers on, covers off. No sweating or flashes, though, just uncomfortably warm. It really interfered with my sleep. Now I am able to sleep all night comfortably, but knowing how unpredictable peri can be, it wouldn't surprise me if made another appearance on my symptom list.

Hi Sue,
Ever thought it could be 'adrenal surges'?....I believe mine are...though I wouldn't count meno flashes out. I get 'hot'. but don't 'sweat'.....and my adrenals were pretty much pooped about a year and a half ago and can get that way easily if I'm somewhat stressed. Ever had your adrenals tested? (saliva test recommended). Caz |

alot of my day & night flashes have no sweating. i'm on a several day run of this hot hot hot all night, often accompanied by other lovely symptoms, such as the nausea that was mentioned (& cramping, headaches, hunger attacks, fleeting muscle/joint pain, blah blah blah).
sorry, sue, that you are all burned up, but hope you get some relief soon. or join me at 4am in flaming zombie land. ellen |

Thanks so much for your replies!
Last night I purposely DIDN'T go for a walk and I slept fine...NO hot flashes. YAY!!! I'm beginning to think the combination of my long walks (getting overheated) and it being a few days before my period (the first in 4 months) all made for some intense hot flashes and nausea!! Thanks everyone! It's a confusing time for me because I also have CFS/fibro to deal with and that in itself makes the body thermostat all out of whack sometimes. It's a fine line in knowing when I've done too much exercise or when I've not done enough....(when I've done too much, I get myself into a flare up of CFS.....NOT fun). I'm keeping a journal of my "flashes" and symptoms so we'll see if they eventually match up next month. Thanks and everyone have a great day! Hi Sue,
maybe it is just taking your body a long time to really cool down and the blankets just make you hotter. I know there are moments when I am sooo hot at night and others for no apparent reason am fine. Maybe it's the exercise or just another moment of all the fun we are having at this time of life. Either way, I hope tonight is a cool one for you. |
