I have been on this site for some time now. Have met some wonderful ladies. Thought I knew a thing or two...maybe even three. So, why didn't I know that prickly heat could be a part of this hot flash experience? And...furthermore - why didn't I know that even though it is fall outside, that we shouldn't dress for it when going through the latter part of peri-menopause? I thought I had some kind of allergic reaction to foods/clothing. I went out on Halloween night and came home with this terrible prickly stinging rash ALL over my upper bawdy! Scratching something horrible, I was. I had a soak in some epsom salts, lied on the bed starkers much to my family's surprise and amusement. Do you think I could put 2 and 2 together? NOPE. Came on here even and looked up food allergies. It wasn't until I talked with my girlfriend that she came up with the diagnosis of prickly heat. It is common to do that to our wee babies: overdress them. But, to overdress oneself during peri takes some great "skill" indeed. Ladies please take heed. Even though the weather outside is frightful, consider that you may be wearing all that extra clothing in a heated office, mall, friend's house, social engagement, church function.... Skip the turtleneck and remember to layer your clothing - make them breathable fabrics. I abstain from wearing a bra altogether and wear a loose fitting - soft feeling blouse with a loose vest to hide the highbearms. Yes, I think it is Woodstock! I now kinda understand why Martha Stewart wore those loose fitting shirts under those bright lights in her studio. Yes, I sometimes look like my mother, but man I am built for comfort! I used to say, "it is better to look good despite the pain" Now, not so much. Just thought I'd share my "revelation" manohman I am a tad foggy brained. hehehe!!!
Suz, I know it's not funny, but you put FUN into everything you say and do! I'm sorry you had to go through such torment in order to discover the true culprit. Glad you now know not to overdress. I go out of here every morning with short sleeves and a jacket.................on my arm. I can always put the jacket on if I need it, which I hardly ever do, but manohman, id be nuts if I wore a turtleneck and had to suffer all day and man would I STINK!! -------------------- He Who Throws Dirt Loses Ground

Your post is a hoot.
But you're right. For about a year now, I've been breaking out in weird rashes here and there and darn it if it they don't resemble prickly heat. 7-10 days of zinc oxide seems to do the trick. -------------------- I am Menopausa, PeriMeno Warrior Princess!

Oh Book, Zinc Oxide is GREAT isn't it? And you don't have to buy the name brand stuff, just go to the baby dept. or health and beauty and get the stuff labled simply zinc oxide.

Hey Suz:
I am glad you posted this because I would not have thought of it. If it had happened to me, I would have thought I had a skin infection or something worse. Thanks for the humor too, I needed it!! Hugs, Jeaninne -------------------- Hugs to all,
