Hi Ladies I hope you are all well. In the last couple of months I've noticed that all the moisture seems to be disappearing from my face. I have a horrible dry scaly patch on my left cheek. It's not itchy just dry. I've tried different moisturizers to no avail. I'm considering getting a humidifier especially being in the cold climate I'm in right now. I don't ever remember my skin being this dry before. Has anybody else experienced this? What kind of moisturizer do you use? Please help I'm starting a new job tomorrow and dread my apperance. Thanks! Dried out in T.O. Tara |

Tara...I have found that regular exfoliation really helps with flaky skin. I like to use one of those scrubbing face sponges when I cleanse my skin, and I also use an at home micro-dermabrasion product once or twice a week. It really helps to get rid of the dry patches and makes my skin look very fresh and smooth. I also use a facial mask every now and then. I think quality skin care products are important. I have used Mary Kay for years; they have a line for (ahem.......) aging skin.
Good luck on that job interview! Take care. gardenbear -------------------- ~~~gardenbear~~~ ![]() Please visit my power-surge blog! |

i've always heard that beautiful skin starts from the inside. with that in mind, try taking flaxseed oil, fish oil, some kind of good oil for that. drink lots of water and try using coconut oil (before going to bed because it's pretty oily) on the outside. you can find all of these at any health food store.
good luck and hope you find something that helps. gyz |

Gardenbear and gyz thank-you so very much for your replies. Gardenbear I used to use an exfoliant when I was younger and am not sure why I stopped. My skin just seems so touchy lately. I am going to look for a gentle exfoliant. Gyz I would have never thought to take flaxseed. I will give it a try. Thanks again ladies! Enjoy your day or evening Tara P.S. I enjoy my new job so there's one less worry! |

My daughter works for Chanel. I have tried ALL the high priced moisturizers- from Chanel and from others. Pond's Dry Skin Cream (not the Cold Cream) works the best (daughter agrees!). It's like 6$ at the drugstore. I slap it on my face and neck twice a day and it helps. Seriously, Pond's should pay me the way I brag about it!!

Trying the Clinique Repairwear, really nice so far. I do not use their 3 step system though. I use the combination foam cleaner from Estee Lauder and EL's exfoliant 2X/ week, along with there repairwear.
I too have tried many skincare products in the past 2years. Plumeria |

I eat plenty of god fat and slap some on your face too
I like extra virgin olive oil, it is he closest to the fat our body makes in composition and contains Squalen, that is muscle relaxant. I tried most expensive skin care for the past few years, all the way to the La Mer, most of the including La Mer, are made with mineral oil and contain paraben I figured that cheap moisturizers from the drug store are as good if not better than over priced lines. But I also believe that skin is built from inside, so eat plenty of fat, especially EVOO and put it on my face. I always had dry/normal skin, so I must use moisturizers day and night. Costco has inexpensive and good skin care, Borgese, all natural, no mineral oil. I used their moisturizer ($15 for 2 oz) and use Ponds towelettes to cleans my face, bu the regular one, not the age defying., and put oil before bed. I don't use scrubs, never on my face, they make skin thinner, and nothing with glycolic acid or AHA, all makes my skin flaky. Coconut oil, cocoa butter, shea butter, EVOO. Cocoa butter and shea butter I buy in health food stores, just warm them in microwave, you will feel like you just ate chocolate too I have read that Sofie Loren takes olive oil baths, I wish I could do it too, it is the best thing ever for nice supple skin. -------------------- I feel like there is a party going inside me ...but I am not invited

Iradan,
Thanks for the info on Borgese, I often see it at COSTCO and wonder about it. So far the Clinique repairwear seems to be fine but I am always on the lookout to try something more inexpensive that works. I take a lot of supplements also that supposedly helps my skin. Happy Halloween everyone! Plumeria |

Tara
In my early forties, at the beginning of peri, my skin was SOOOO dry and when I washed my face it felt so tight. It really felt awful. I agree with Iradan in adding good fats to our diet. I also started supplementing with Evening Primrose Oil, vitamin E, cod liver oil, flaxseed oil as well as moisturising the outside and WOW what a difference. I was having a cup of tea with a girlfriend the other day and she complimented me on my skin. She wasn't wearing glasses so I suppose her eyesight was okay Wow Olive oil baths |

If I haven't had any good oil in my diet for the day, I'll swallow a heaping tablespoon of olive oil!! I think it starts from the inside also! In season I've been known to eat 2-3 avocados in a day!

Thank-you ladies for all of your wonderful replies. I think i will have to take care of the inside just as much as the outside. If all works out I should be looking like Sofia Loren in a good thirty years !LOL Thanks again Ladies Tara |
