I've been on Orthocyclen since April of 2004. It worked well up until August and then I started having interrupted sleep, etc. I went off it in September and felt better but my skin felt a little oily so I decided to go back on it. My sleep has been interrupted the last two nights. Today I feel terrible and will probably have to go off it. I think this happened because I was on it continuously the last year and my liver got toxic. ?? I am really sad. Bioidentical hormones seem like such a pain.

If you felt better except for oily skin I would just stop completely and go it natural.Just find a good facial wash product.I would love to get to the point where I didn't need to take anything-that would be great.GOD-bless

Oily skin is actually good for you, unless the pores are getting clogged and infected and you're having breakouts.
-------------------- I wish all of you the best of luck ! Remember, whether your peri or fully menopausal, TRY BHRT FIRST ! You might be surprised at how well it relieves your symptoms and how many unexpected benefits you experience ! I feel better now at age 48 than I did at age 40 !

I went back on the pill in late October and have the same symptoms; peeing at night, interrupted sleep. I went off it and am still having the same symptoms. It is very frustrating. I will be going on bioidentical hormones next year for sure. The birth control pill seemed like a great option for a few years but I now think it is toxic. It is a mystery why it stopped working though... for anyone who is using the Pill without a break, beware. Your body might not be able to handle it and it might stop working for you. Now I'm almost in the same place I was in before the pill, except I have wrinkles instead of acne. I'm pretty irritated really.

Hi I wanted to update. I went off the pill in December 2008 and since mid Feb of this year have been totally wiped out-- no energy at all. brain fog, feel weird, skin is getting all wrinkly on my hands, hair looks like crap & continues to fall out, waking up every night at 4 to pee, and have started to hear nasty comments at work about my age, something that up untill now I was an expert at concealing. If I hear one more 35 or 40 comment I will back hand someone. I am much angrier than I was a year ago; last night when attempting to drop off my saliva test I put the mailing sticker on wrong and then got in a fight with the UPS counter people something that has never happened to me in my life. I was thrown out of UPS!! I am going back on pill this weekend and hopefully will be on bioidenticals next month.

Catrinac: I have (with the help of my gyne) researched the pill thoroughly - it does not"stop working" if you take it for some time - there are women who have been on it for 15-20 years and are happy with it - it could be that your own hormones are going through a change which is affecting you - the pill has a set amount of hormones that you ingest every day - they are supposed to work for you (unless the pills are fake or defective) - the reason why you are having all these problems with your skin and hair is because you have withdrawn the pill and the lack of hormones is causing this - |

Hi Catrinac: Sorry to hear all this - I understand about the anger issue - I try to keep it in check by meditating LOL - I have a question - why are you going back on the pill and then bioidenticals next month - why not just wait and get on bios? Also whats wrong with being mistaken for 35 or 40 (unless you are 26) if you don't mind my asking how old are you - most of the women out here are 50 something - so at that age to be mistaken for 35 or 40 is a complement...LOL Lara Falcon |

I went back on the pill for a month while waiting to get my bioidentical prescription. I've been on it this week and feel much better. I am still getting up at night but hopefully this will eventually go away. Actually, I have to rave: BHRT is soooo amazing compared to the pill. There is NO comparison. My mind feels so much clearer, I have so much more energy and think I am even dropping weight. My blood sugar has not been this good in years. For me to make it to 10 am at work without having a blood sugar crash is nothing short of a miracle. And of course the wrinkles are gone and I look better. Why is this a big deal? I am 38 and the culture has changed. I am also single and work; I need to look good. I would not have thought this years ago but based on how I've been treated the last few months I've really gotten it what a horribly sexist, ageist culture we live in. Maybe this isn't how things were for the Boomers but this is how things are now... I'd like to have a relationship at some point and am frankly not ready to give up on my dreams or life. So for me that does mean being essentially somewhat vain and wanting to maintain my look. Besides, the hate never stops from what I can tell. Unless you are 65 years old and part of a different world... and many of those people are very judgemental, in fact more so, than my own generation. I'm just not gonna put up with "you're 40 and it's over for you". Nope, not even for 1 minute. Isn't that what most people think? Anyway, I'm on BHRT indefinitely.
