Okay, here is something I've never had to deal with most of my, er, YOUNGER life.

On top of the itchy, crawly skin sensations, I now get recurrent rashes. Small, itchy patches mostly on my legs (inner thigh mostly or that fleshy part on the insides of your knees) I went to a dermatologist last spring and they gave me all sorts of funky meds that didn't do jack. dry.gif They also can't seem to tell me what causes it. Um, could be allergies to 1) detergent 2) fabric 3) food 4) life 5) all of the above.

My chiropractor/holistic doctor says it's probably due to dry skin. I'm taking fish oil supplements now and using zinc oxide on the rash. In the meantime, I have to use every ounce of restraint to keep from scratching. The last thing I need is a skin infection.

Can anyone relate or have some ideas what else I can use?

OH YES....I CAN!!!! I just posted this on the post relating to adrenal fatigue, but as far as the itching...YES, DEFINATELY! I don't get the rash/itching thing on the legs, i get it ONLY ON MY LEFT ARM! ..lol... this is nuts!
I have tried many otc anti-itch lotions and such, and the only one i found to help, was Caladryl, but I also take Benedryl to hopefully stop it from the inside! This arm itching comes and goes. THIS TIME though, i've had it now for almost 2 mos.!
Like I said on the other post, it seems to come along with tiny red dots.....that really really itch! I have a feeling, it left me with some sort of "mole" thingy, on the back, innerside of my left arm, but within a month or so, seemed to get smaller, lighter, and eventually, kind of dry up....and has now almost completely flaked off. So, maybe it IS due to dry skin, could be, makes sense! The itching is enough to drive you crazy, you can't even sleep! Like you, I've never had this either, and all I can say is, I hope this is hormonal, and I hope it ends soon!!!!!

I surely can relate to this...believe me. I am: "an interesting specimen dermatologically speaking" according to my doctor. I have to be super vigilant too with my itchiness - cuz if I scratch I do get infections...as in right now with a staph infection!!!! Moisturize Moisturize Moisturize is what the doctor said to me. I find that salted water to the affected area helps me as well. If there are any magic cures out there I would so love to hear about them. I have tried many - believe me.

funny ... I use to get a patch on the underside of my left wrist. It use to come twice a year around spring and fall. It would itch and blister up like crazy. It has since gone away and I don't know if it was because I quit eating gluten or if it went away before that... but I haven't seen it for years.

Dry skin and itching...isn't it fun becoming an 'older woman?' I have always had very dry skin, and the women in my family seem to get rashes all the time. When I graduated from college with my bachelor's degree, the day after I got my sheep skin, I broke out in a head-to-toe rash that was unbelievably itchy. Not scratching wasn't an option...I would have needed to be in a coma. I developed all kinds of secondary infections, because of course, the scratching broke open the skin. I had FOUR biopies of different areas and it was never determined what caused the rash. It took a year, but it very slowly went away. (I still have scars.)

I have found that if my skin is dry, I'm prone to these mystery rashes. One thing I do is to not take superhot showers or baths...lukewarm water is better. And after I towel off, I cover myself with some type of moisturizer...doesn't matter what kind, as long as it's pretty much colorless and odorless..in other words, hypoallergenic. I basically goop myself up really good and then put on a light terrycloth robe and finish doing my hair, or washing the dishes...however long it takes for the stuff to absorb into my skin.

It has helped a lot with the rashes....hope this helps...
