Been on Prometrium and Estradoil for 1 week today and am up 5 lbs. All ready up 40 lbs from peri. What should I do? They are helping my moods much better than BCP but I don't want to be fatter....Any suggestions? Should I just stop taking them? I have been eating right and exercising...how can I be up 5 lbs.

Hi urs,
If you've gained that much in such a short time, it sounds to me like you are retaining water. How much Prometrium are you taking? Maybe reducing the dose or taking the Prometrium cyclically would help. Too much estrogen can do the same thing to some people. My co-worker was taking 2 mg of oral estradiol (no progesterone because she's had a hyst) after she had her ovaries removed and she became really bloated. She cut way back on the estradiol and feels much better. I don't think you should just stop taking the hormones--you might feel even worse than you do now. Maybe talk to your doctor about reducing the dosages--though I'd change just one thing at a time. Keeping track of your symptoms and hormones in a journal is really helpful too.

Dear'urs9999'

When I first started my Hormonal Treatment had a bloated tummy and did gain weight. So I cut out all sugars-except for the very occassional treat. No sodas or foods flavoured with sweetners.Went heavy on the Proteins and reduced the carbs. Then I really stepped up the exercise;Gym three times a week and Yoga twice.I don't eat after 6pm. and strictly no alcohol.

Honestly, after about three months a noticeable difference, flatter tummy and back to my normal weight. The biggest fault that most of us make is eating in the evening.

Anyway, that is what worked for me so wish you lots of success and keep us posted.

P.S.When you are back to your ideal weight it is quite o.k to enjoy something special.Just had a chocolate covered ice-cream bar and it slid down just right!

Blessings
Elizabeth

urs,
.5 mg of estradiol--if that's oral it's a pretty small dose. Are you having any other symptoms besides the weight gain? Prometrium doesn't come in any smaller dose, but you could try cycling it for 12-14 days a month if your doctor says it's o.k. Continuous progesterone causes bloating in some people. If you've only been on the new hormones for one week it's possible your body is still adjusting. Maybe you could try waiting a little longer and see how you do.

Hi, I used to be on Elleste solo 1mg, when it wasnt enough I doubled it and could not stop eating!!!!!! Put loads of weight back on and had to drop down again. Had to fight to lose weight all this year and still battling, consider a lower dose by patch with your doc as it should be more effective - its working for me. Am with a slimming club though to help with weightloss as no other way was working for me......
