I been on prempro for five months now its helps me like 40 percent. I still get little anxiety and depression but not like i did. I was wondering how long i should stay on it ? Cause i know i am gonna be a mess again when i go off of them so maybe i should let nature take its place and go off hrt. I'm indecisive then i start thinkig of the risk of cancer and strokes etc... I do take xanax a low dose which helps, I just don't want to go through the bad depession again. And if i do go off of hrt i do plan of telling gyno so he can wean me off. Any advice i appreciate thanks Lizardlover

I'm on estradiol patch and prometrium and I would say I am about 85% better so far--been on it since last April. I've been using vaginal estriol cream since March.
I tried to go naturally through menopause for over 6 years but my symptoms were too severe for me to tolerate. It became a quality of life issue for me. I can't live my life feeling like I was--I was truly losing my will to live. In my case, there is no doubt that I am going to stay on HRT. This is something you'll have to decide for yourself. I feel the risk is higher for me to live without it than it is to live on it. Miss Tibbs -------------------- Just what you want to be

I was on prempro for 3 months. It didnt really help me with my symptoms. I switched to vivelle dot 0.5mg then increased to 0.75mg . Took prometrium 100mg to bring on a period. These worked so much better for me. Maybe because they are bioidentical hormones.I actually have my life back.I was such a mess when this peri crap hit me.

Hi Liz,,
I was thinking if you came off the HRT ,,would you consider a AD for awhile for the depression,, I am sure that is a lower risk med considering the risk of HRT. I would definatly go back on AD if my depression came back to the point it interfered with my life.Breast cancer runs in my family I have to be careful what I take as well. I've been off and on Prempro since last August. I was on Angeliq before Prempro and in the between times when i couldn't get Prempro. (long story)
One month ago I decided I could play doctor and go off Prempro and back on Angeliq. I have no insurance and the Prempro costs me $60 plus dollars a month. Whereas I had 4 months of Angeliq stored up in the closet. I wanted to save money. Within 2 weeks I totally crashed. To the point where life is unliveable. So I called my doc and went back on the higher estrogen of Prempro. Prempro has 2mg estrogen, while Angeliq has 1mg of estrogen. I'm one of those people that cannot do life without HRT. It seems to me that if I die sooner because of being on this HRT, then, I don't care because without it --- it is a walking death, which I could not tolerate. Oh god, how I do wish I was one of those lucky ones who just get the hot flashes and night sweats. No, my symptoms made life unlivable and so you have to make a choice . . . I have made mine for now. I stopped taking Prempro "cold turkey" 5 days ago. I see my doctor next week, but couldn't wait. I've had very painful breasts and slight periods. Maybe she'll have some other suggestions. She's my GP, so she may send me back to the GYN. |

I have been on Prempro for 3 years. It has worked wonders. Perhaps for some it is not the answer, but for me it was!
