Question of the Day

Q: I am 46 and had a radical hysterectomy at 37. I am presently on 2 mg bi-est and 75 mg progesterone once a day. i'm still having hot flashes and lack of energy and am wondering if I may need more bi-est? I have a testosterone cream but when I use it I get really bad acne. also I read recently that oral hormones, even if bio-identical, can cause heart problems as compared to a patch. would the sublingual form be comparable to a patch or cream? -thank you! -carol

A: Dear Carol:

Sorry, but I have been out at a class (seminar) for computers, and got behind on my answers. You are correct the oral capsules are not as safe as the sublinguals, patches, creams or gels, since they allow the hormones to go directly to the liver on the first pass through the system. And yes, the sublingual is just as safe as the topicals, and we are the only pharmacy that makes a "True Sublingual tablet". We do ship everywhere and accept hundreds of insurance plans for payment of the RX's. I do believe you definitely need more Biest, less progesterone, and leave the testosterone out for now, if it causes acne. Once we get you in a better balance, we could try a low dose of testosterone for you, and see if you can avoid the acne, and still get the benefits of using it. When you call in and talk to me later this coming week, please remind me of your doses now, and the question, and my answer back on Sunday night. I do believe we can help you, and get you feeling better for the Holiday season. My phone # is listed below, and I do look forward to helping you.
Thank you,
Pete Hueseman, R.Ph., P.D.
