Ask The Pharmacist About Pete Hueseman,
R.Ph., P.D.

Question of the Day

Q: The compounding pharmacy that made my tri-est dosage said 1.25 mg twice daily or 2.5 mg twice daily. there wasn't any applicator to measure the dosage.

i went to my local pharmacy for help and they said 2.5 is such a small amount that there isn't any applicator. he said just use a dab! also, they said it must be 2.5 grams not mg. the jar of cream says mg. please help. Can you give me any idea on amount ,something to compare it with?

also, i'm 58 and through menopause. my ob gyn has me on prometrium 12 days a month. Is this truly natural and why 12 days only? my doctor hasn't any idea on prescribing natural hormones so I have been doing all the research on line, I need help.

A: Dear Shirley:

You have been grossly mis-advised, and we can help you solve this problem. I will also tell you, that we fully refund the consultation fee once we fill your first RX through our Pharmacy, we ship everywhere and accept hundreds of insurance plans for payment of the RX's.

A dab is not the correct answer at all, and you are correct, it is probably 2.5mg per gram; and for now a gram is a leveled off 1/4 teaspoonful as in the 1/4 teaspoon measuring spoon in your kitchen drawer, so it will be 1/4 tsp twice a day.

Prometrium is natural micronized progesterone in "peanut oil", it is used for 12 days per month in order to protect your uterus, but not daily, so you don't get fluid retention, bloating and weight gain in most cases.

That is the good part about using our Pharmacy, we can consult and answer the questions any time you have one, with the proper answer, and we can help you fine tune the dose properly with permission of your doctor as time goes on. We would appreciate your business in the future. Hope this helps for now, and have a Happy July 4th.
