Q: What is all this about flax seed?

A:

A wealth of information about flax seed is contained on the Power Surge Recommendations page and also in more than one of the Newsletters. Each newsletter contains its own index of articles. You'll find a wealth of information on the Web site.

At first I used flax seed gelcaps (which are good, but the ground flax is better). I've been using (ground) flax seed and/or ground flax meal for the 6-8 months. Flax is very, very important, especially because of the high content of omega 3 fish oils. When I made the initial switch from the capsules to the ground, I used the nuttier, crunchier cold-milled, organic flax seeds at $8-$9 per package. One day they were out of my flax seed mix and I got to talking to a customer in the health food store who told me she'd used the $2.99 package of ground flax meal and it was just as good. I've been using the flax meal snce, mixing it in with my Revival every day and take at least three tbsp. daily. I actually like it better and think it's probably easier for my body to digest the finely ground meal. I don't eat a high fat diet and make sure to restrict my fats to the things that are important to me, such as those you find in flax seed, soy and other important nutrients.

A tablespoon of flax seed/meal contains:

  • Total fat -- 7 g
  • Saturated fat -- 1 g
  • Cholesterol -- 0 mg
  • Sodium -- 7 mg
  • Total Carbohydrate -- 4 g
  • Dietary fiber -- 4 g
  • Sugars -- 0 g
  • Protein -- 3 g

I attribute my lowered cholesterol to the combination of Revival SOY and flax seed. The fat in flax is very important low saturated fat. If you read flax labels you'll see a bit more fat than you may be accustomed to using, but note there's NO cholesterol.
